Check in your Advance Options in updates.

Pro users can delay feature updates 365 days. I still think even if set you get maessage when 2004 is ready to download and install.

I will say I have four machines with no message at all. So no message that my machine is not quite ready or that it is ready to Download and install.

What can I check to see if there's a setting/driver/machine specific issue that is preventing me from getting the 2004 update? I'm using Win10 Pro (upgraded a year ago from Win10 Home). Two other machines I run on my home LAN (Pro and Home) have already updated.

Is there something I can or should look into to make sure there's no gremlin preventing the update?
Get a second opinion. This is a standalone and does not need to be installed.

Download Windows Update MiniTool - MajorGeeks

Well... you could just go for it after creating a system image beforehand, that you could restore to, if it goes belly up.

No, the message for 2004 (whether saying 'not quite ready..' or 'download and install') will disappear if you set a high enough number of days to defer feature updates. 2004 was released on 27th May so that's currently anything greater than 88 days. NB: you have to check for updates after setting the defer for it to take effect.

This is a useful tip for someone still on 1903 who's being offered 2004, but would rather update to 1909. If you defer 2004 for long enough to make it disappear you'll be offered 1909 instead.

I apologize if I appear daft, but I don't understand what you're saying. Get a second opinion about what? The use of the MiniTool? If yes, did YOU use it? You've helped me a lot in the past (as has Bree and others) so I respect your opinion if you endorse it as a strategy to consider. I know that my mileage may vary, just looking for an informed opinion.

Also, as I'll elaborate in another reply, does it make sense to "force" the update if the "Update and Security" options say "The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is on its way. Once it’s ready for your device, you’ll see the update available on this page."?

What if my device isn't ready? Or am I being too anal retentive about it (is that hyphenated?).

I had no idea that I could bypass Windows Update and Security settings and download it outside of that app. So my question to Tomcat was basically, does it make sense to force the update?

No, do not force the update if any message appears saying it's not quite ready or anything like that. Sorry I was vague on the MiniTool. What I was leading to is if WU shows no message at all about the update, good or bad or in between, try the MiniTool to see if it gives you a different answer....if it shows it's there to update. I really doubt it will, but that's what I meant by "Second opinion". Sorry for any confusion.

Ahhh, I get it now. That's a good tip.

Just to be clear, I should not update as long as the Update & Security setting displays as follows:
How to get the Windows 10 May 2020 Update version 2004-windows-2004-update.jpg

and to not employ the suggestion by Fabler2 using the Update Now link he provided.

Is that correct? If so, back to my original question:

Is there anything I can check to find out if a setting is preventing my system from being "ready" for the 2004 update? How long would you wait until you said to yourself "sumpin's not right, I should be updated to 2004 by now"?
