I've just been offered the 2004 update.

First off, there was a 1909 Cumulative update to download as well. So I downloaded the Cumalitive for 1909 first and got that out of the way. Restart, all good.

Next, Macrium Reflect backup image and verified on both external HD and MR recovery disc. All good.

Next, download the 2004 update. It's installing as I type on my other desktop PC and is currently at 35%. I'm nervous.

With an MR image you shouldn't be.

I know but I want the update to work. My heart will sink if something goes belly up.This isn't good for my nerves and this is only one of two PCs. I've got to go through it all again.

All done. Phew. One down, one more to go which incidentally hasn't been offered the 2004 update yet so I wait in anticipation.

From what I've been reading in this forum about 2004 I'm kinda skeevish on allowing it to update just yet. Sounds like a Superball that isn't quite done bouncing around.
I downloaded the CU stuff, no problem. Does July 15 sound like a wise idea for 2004? (It's the latest I can set the delay to.)

If you pause updates, you won't get any CUs either. It's a blanket pause for all updates.

Anyway, you don't need to pause anything to avoid getting 2004. It's completely optional. Just don't click "Download and install".

Take this with grain of salt but this says win 2004 can force upgrade after pause date expires.

Woody is not exactly the #1 MS fan-boy (far from it). But even he is saying 'people report...' rather than 'I've seen...'.

FWIW I have just paused and un-paused updates several times and the 2004 remains resolutely optional with its 'Download and install' prompt.

I would think that until Download and Install is clicked on V2004 will not be installed.

That was the whole idea I thought. Yes when your version is about to go off support they will force.

I went to my laptop that is ready and checked for updates. It found a security update and installed it. Still displaying the ability to "Download and install" V2004.
