I tried to install 2004 on only one of my systems and it failed the second phase reboot multiple times. I tried using several versions (ESD, WIM, and Upgrade Assistant)
Simply mounted ISO files on the Windows C: desktop and it worked smoothly until it finished the updates and tried the final reboot.
Uninstalled Webroot, Malwarebytes, and disabled every other app in the startup including the Macrium Boot feature. I also stopped unneeded services related to the apps that I stopped. I tried with the router active and off. Also tried with with no paging file and with the system managed paging file on C: Also removed all USB devices including the mouse.
After a clean boot I started the setup, to no avail. I also updated all drivers before the upgrade.
I just don’t understand why I have this same upgrade problem on every machine using the methods mentioned except for cumulative updates.
I tried the method I used the last time which I believe Tomcat suggested and it would not work on this one because now an older version is not allowed without overwriting everything!
Now I paused the updates on the machine mentioned above and all of the others.

Updated this AM on the only one of three computers to be offered it (the others have the "on it's way but not ready yet" thing in WU). It took just over an hour; 16mins of that was "Getting things ready" and "downloading". The restarts and configuring updates part went much more quickly than I remembered for previous feature updates (with the exception of 1903 to 1909).
So far so good! I haven't had to reinstall any apps so far and can't find anything obviously missing that MS removed in the process, and nothing so far seems broken. The only surprise was not receiving the new Edge, which arrived on my Spectre X2 (running 1909) this morning when I checked for updates. After a little testing of new Edge I've decided I like it much better than old Edge and will probably use it more than old Edge, so I've downloaded it on the other two rigs also. :)
I haven't looked in the event viewer so far on the updated machine, might do so in a few days when 2004 has bedded in a bit more.
If this machine has Pro, look in Windows Update > Advanced options.
Windows Update - Defer Feature and Quality Updates in Windows 10 post #73...it seems that for Pro the 'Choose when updates are installed' section in Advanced options is missing in 2004, build 19041.264
Also, open Defrag and see when it says it was last run. Then restart and look again. It will now say 'never run'.
Neither are too serious, but they are bugs....
My spouse has a Dell Inspiron 3875, which has not been offered update Version 2004 yet. In checking Dell site, it says - "If your computer model is not listed, Dell is not testing the device, and drivers have not been updated for that model". Model 3875 is not listed. Does this mean I should just stay with Version 1909 indefinitely? I have already tried to update to Version 2004, using Windows Update Assistant, and due to problems, had to roll it back to Version 1909, where it work fine. Seems like a no solution situation?
Just wait for MS to offer it it you John.
None of the vendors are testing older gear. That is not an indication of anything. I have the newest Fast ring on a 2007 built for Vista laptop.
If it is of any comfort, my daily, see specs, has not been offered and it is a 8th gen Intel CPU. A long that line, none of the devices in my house have been offered. Dell, HP, Asus. Not one and they are a collection of i3's, i5's and i7's, custom built and store bought laptops.
Seems like older systems, middle of the road age wise, stand a better chance of having it offered and a successful, stable (?) install. Sounds odd, I know, but if you take a look at how many of the "Known Issues" have a hard block put on them, it's a little clearer.

My system is blocked, most likely the Bluetooth or iGPU issue, and not a darn thing I can do about it. I had updated via an ISO and had a very un-stable system. File explorer crashing randomly and other weird problems. I restored back to 1909 and all is fine.
I'm in limbo, as are lots of others with good specs and up to date hardware, etc. Nothing to do but wait.
My wife's Surface Pro 3, which has to be 5-6 years old by now, running an i5-4800u at a screaming 2.4ghz was offered and successfully installed 2004. No issues so far. Hardware is older, not dinosaur old, but doesn't seem to be affected by any of the known issues.
My Toshiba Satellite L750 laptop is not even in Toshiba's 'tested' list for the original 2015 release of Windows 10, and there are definitely no W10 drivers for it from Toshiba. It was one of my two machines that were offered 2004 in Windows Update as soon as it was released.
It now runs 2004 without a problem. 'Not tested' just means it's too old for the OEM to be bothered with (or they haven't got round to it yet). It doesn't mean 'not capable'.
Edit: and if it's any consolation, I have a Dell Latitude E7270 that IS on Dell's list of 'computers that have been tested for update to Windows 10 May 2020 Update'. Despite that, it is still waiting to be offered it in Windows Update.
