Not quite (but it comes close). At least we now know why windows update isn't offering to download the 2004 feature update, it's already been downloaded, installed, and just waiting for a restart (and to fail again). The log files may hold a clue...

I would try the easiest fix first and work my way up: Windows update troubleshooter, then Dism's RestoreHealth and SFC /ScanNow. Should all that fail, then reset windows update.

Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

I would expect the feature update to be offered again after a reset. If so it's up to you whether you want to risk trying it again.

    @Bree -

Did the WU reset, checked often - not being offered again.
    DISM, SFC report normally.

I think that it was a botched push. I'll be patient.

    Thanks.

And us poor users hose it up even more !!!!

It definitely is slower than pre-update though --OK maybe not significantly -- although at least Networking seems to function correctly.

I won't keep this on a Windows laptop -- I'll hang on to it as a Virtual Machine just to see if further updates fix it or break it more.

    Cheers

4 machines updated from in-place ISO upgrade. No obvious issues.

Probably for the best. There are bugs in the 2004 as released. Nothing serious, but my Home machine that got it successfully can't remember the last time that Defrag ran, after a restart it always says 'never run'. Also, Pro is missing its defer quality updates and defer feature updates options.

I deferred all my systems for 10 days.
    Too many issues, it seems.

    Whatever.

All is fine , only these nasty " ESENT id=642 " eventlogs and the defrag-bug ( never optimised !)............
I can live with these two bugs , so I will stay on 2004 .

It's Optional, why would it need to be deferred?

    What? It's a feature update.
