How to get the Windows 10 May 2020 Update version 2004

I had a mistaken belief that Microsoft extended support for all the recent windows 10 releases by 6 months. So 1903 support is going to end in Dec 2020.

Your analogy is also not really correct. Sure there are many people that will tell you to not update to the latest GPU driver. But virtually nobody tells people to be 2 driver generations behind.

Well, if you are so skeptical that Microsoft shouldn't take 6-12 months to fix a release, then why are you so against the idea of updating to 1909 right now (since it has been 6 months old now). 1909 is so minor of a release that 1903 and 1909 basically share the same download --- only needing a small enabling download to turn on the 1909 features.

What's the point in updating if everything is running smooth on 1903 ? I doubt they won't fix 2004 by the end of 1903 life time. Also isn't there going to be another version update in november this year ?

Aren't the version updates normally in May and November months ?

Also the GPU driver analogy IS correct. Like i said if you regularly update your GPU drivers then you know that many of them are full of bugs and ussually it's best to stick with the older ones even if they are 2 generations behind. What most people don't know is that newest GPU drivers most of the time can screw up stuff instead of actually doing something helpful. This is especially common in gaming.

1909 offers you the option to delay updating to 2004 in Dec 2020 when 1903 support runs out.

Your GPU analogy is completely flawed. Throughout this whole discussion during the last week, has ANYONE taken your position on this issue? Well, you don't think that some of us are not familiar to the risks of updating to the bleeding edge GPU drivers. EVERYBODY here is telling you that updating to 1909 while you still have a choice is the smart thing to do.

I'm asking people in general about 1909 and 2004. That's the whole purpose of a FORUM. It's a place discuss stuff such as this.

Show me some learned technical advice from knowledgeable people telling people to be sticking to TWO generations behind current releases. Not some random guy on the internet forums telling people to be 2 generations behind.

NOBODY who knows what they are doing would advise people to be 2 generations behind.

I'm sticking with my 15 years of experience working with hardware & software. I used to do this stuff all day back in the W7 and XP days. W10 isn't that different and it's only common sense that newest updates no matter if they're GPU or OS updates ARE NOT always best.

My work Surface Laptop is on 1809 and has been moved there only earlier this year.

So anything above it are test editions in disguise really, with Home users being guinea pigs doing God's work - and for free.

Except that your corporate laptop will have standardized hardware and driver combination and some other way to install the new DCH drivers.

There are people here on this forum putting LTSB on their fancy gaming motherboards and no way to install realtek audio console app because they don't have the Microsoft Store.
