This is an optional update. You will not be forced to apply it until your current version reaches end of life.
I wasn't aware of that. So if i unpause updates there's no risk of this downloading itself? I'm using the Home Edition.

    Thanks.

Hasn't made its way to NZ yet for my two comps! Maybe it's because out borders are pretty much locked down??!!
I'm in NZ and was offered it on one laptop the very day it was released on Windows Update (Wednesday I think?). I've received the notification that's it's on it's way but your machines aren't ready on the other two, two and three days ago respectively. I knew it would be blocked on my Spectre X2 because it has the problematic conexant audio drivers, but I've no idea why it's being denied on my Zbook. I haven't downloaded and installed it on the one it's been offered on yet... Far too many bugs for my liking yet. Will wait until first CUs come out.

    Hi folks
was offered this last week -- it gave you an option to install and update so I don't know what the criteria is for getting the option.

I upgraded from the 1909 18363.836 version which I had installed via UUPDUMP so not in the insider program and was still offered the update.

    Only problems so far

Language not working properly -some screens are a bit of a mess with partial translations -- OK I know Icelandic isn't one of the world's most common languages but it HAS been working perfectly so it's not just a 1-off thing on a not particularlrly much used language.

Networking works properly again -- Windows can see non Windows NAS systems and devices via file explorer.

Two windows machines (marked W) and two NAS (Linux -- arch linux ) boxes, and one amazon firestick.

Response though seems slightly slower than with the previous build (i.e before the update). I can't positively check this but it just intuitively seems so -- that could be because as these are test builds there might be some behind the scenes extra debuging info / other stats that Ms could be collecting. I don't have too much problems with that type of debug stats being collected if it results in better Windows -- so long as these aren't used for "other data collection" and targeting more specific ads at you.

    Cheers

I had a look at my device drivers on my Elitebook and Windows updated the Intel HD Graphics dvr, the Bluetooth dvr and the WIFI dvr. But still no 2004 offer.

Doesn't worry me - it will come when MS thinks it is ready. Same for Dell desktop.

So if i'm using 1903 should it show that 2004 is available and ready to download ?

    I haven't update to 1909 yet.

Also was 1903 life cycle extended ? I just checked on microsoft and it still says it's until December 8th 2020.

You may be right about performance drop. At first when freshly installed, performance was good, checked with several benchmark programs (I'm performance conscious ). After 2 days of continuous running performance was down by 20%. Thanks to strong system it was not noticeable in normal work but was in some games. After a restart, performance was better but still not at level of first boot. Chasing usual suspects didn't produce any results, still trying.

You should install 1909 right now.

1903 support ends December 2020, which means by November (may 2021) you will be forced to update by Microsoft.

If you install 1909 right now while you still got the chance, Microsoft won't force you to update in November (may 2021)

Edit: Microsoft gave another 6 months of support for coronavirus.

You LOSE control if you don't update to 1909 right now. There is a possibility that 2004 will be completely unstable for the next 12 months. And because support for 1903 ends in May 2021, they will force 2004 on you in April 2021 EVEN IF 2004 is extremely unstable.
Where did you read support for 1903 was extended to May 2021 ?

I checked on MS and says it's until December 8th 2020.

Mikey89's thinking is completely contrary to conventional wisdom.

With the disastrous 1809 and now coronavirus delays, Microsoft is going back to 1 major and 1 minor updates per year.

1909 is a minor update, any problems associated with it have been minor.

2004 is a major update, any problems associated with it can potentially take the next 12 months to sort out. Mikey is waiting for a "stable" 2004 that MAY NEVER COME.
Also my thinking is not contrary to conventional wisdom. I'm just being cautious.

To make an analogy : if you regularly update for example your GPU drivers you would know that some of the newer ones often have problems and it's best to stick to the older ones. This is why i prefer to stick with 1903. There are only 1909 and 2004 so i see no point in updating even to 1909 if everything is smooth with 1903.

I wonder though what your thinking is since you keep going on about 1909. You really think it will take them 6 months or even 1 year to fix 2004 ?

How big was 2004, i'm curious about the size.

Just for the record, bugs and issues in gaming are fixed within a few days with an update. Some never get fixed at all, but it never takes months or years.

Because you are using 1903 it should not show 2004. If you are using 1909 it should not show 2004. If you are using 1809 it should not show 2004.

It will show 2004 when Microsoft's AI thinks there is a high probability that the update will succeed and will NOT cause you issues. It really is that simple. When your device, either because of drivers, software or other reason MS imposes is ready it will appear.

So even if i DID NOT update to 1909 yet it's normal that it's not showing 2004 as available and ready to download ?

Wait so it was only appearing in WU for some users ?

I noticed some users just updated to 2004 through WU. I thought maybe something's wrong on my end that 2004 isn't appearing.
