I updated. It is running fast except that Notepad is missing. My .txt files defaulted to LibreOffice. Also if I search for notepad.exe it shows up but when I try to open it I get "Windows cannot find 'C:\Windows\System32\notepad.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again. I also ran sfc/scannow but it fixed nothing as usual.

That's odd. Notepad exists and runs for me, both on a machine that was updated to 2004 and in a clean install. Look for Notepad.exe in File Explorer, it should exist in C:\Windows\System32\ and in C:\Windows\. If it does for you too, try running it directly by double-clicking on it.

Since upgrading I've noticed that the defrag issue remains and it still doesn't remember the last time it was run in the console.

    Good call.

That must be new in 2004, Notepad isn't an optional feature on any of my machines still on 1909.

I believe Notepad is in the Microsoft Store now (complete with new icon) but it's odd that it wasn't installed as I updated to 2004 and still have it.

What it is, is most of the system32 "apps"(I prefer the archaic word "programs") will become optional features, as most people won't need them.
