The Fast Ring is no longer tied to a release. It is a snapshot from the latest development branch. Things that appear on there may or may not make it to release.
Thanks for clearing that up, I didn't actually know that they had changed their approach with the releases. Just been reading how apparently the 2004 build is the same one that came out to Insiders in December or something which would explain why it doesn't have some of the latest icons (like Defender for example)
Are these things (as well as the new look Start menu they were showing off a month or two ago) likely to show up in 2004 or will we have to wait until the 2009 (20H2) version?

I suspect any store apps will update but whether Defender will is another question. Pity, I prefer the new defender icon.

Yes, December was when the first 19041 build came out.

I'm just hoping it won't take too long because 1903 ends support on December this year.

You said on another thread that windows update offers you 1909. Take it, support for that ends May 11, 2021. It's a minor update that installs like a CU and turns on features that are already in your 1903, but dormant.

Still not offered to either of my machines on windows update. But on one of them a check for updates yielded that message about the feature update being on its way but not quite ready for my device yet. That’s fine. However I wonder why can’t MS push that same message out to the other machine? Rather than just report nothing at all. Either the machine is ready or it’s not. Makes me think many of us not being offered the update are not necessarily sitting on incompatible machines and just victims of a drip feed. Not that I’d risk forcing it but would be nice to know one way or the other

    From How-To-Geek:

"Despite a long development process with plenty of time for bug fixes, it looks like Windows 10's May 2020 Update has a variety of bugs.
It looks like most of the problems involve issues with third-party drivers and peripherals. Microsoft is working on fixing them."

The bugs bother me but my biggest concern is when Microsoft will fix all of them.
Is there another Microsoft list of all identified bugs for the 2004 release aside from this:

Windows Media Creation tool gives you the option to simply upgrade (retaining your files and apps) without even bothering to make an iso or usb...I just did the upgrade using that method and it installed successfully...Did take over an hour though, so you need a lot of patience...LOL

Everything seems to be there (files and apps) only thing i had to do was boost the volume back to 100% and boost the brightness back to 100%...

    Winver shows version 2004 installed...

    Thought......

It could be going thru all the steps as you say, the reboot, back to desktop..... but, it may be doing a rollback (Undoing changes displayed at bottom of screen). If you're not there looking at the screen, you may miss it. No Windows.old is why my thought. It's used to roll back, then deleted.
Yeah, all true, but at the end of the day there is no update.... or windows.old folder as asked. Anyway I'll attempt a clean install sometime this weekend since the PC is now in an infinite loop.

I hadn't shut the system down since the last time I used it months ago so when I went to log in I was presented with a BIOS screen telling me the system was reset. I fixed that and then proceeded to do the update, which of course failed.

Anyway I need to sort that then look into trying to update again, this time via clean install.

    Thanks.
