    Hi folks

on the 836 build I've been offered the update -- however as I'm using VM's I'll save my current one and then try it with the Windows update and see what happens.

I usually use UUPDUMP for installing various releases but I'll see what happens the official way.

The feature is optional in the sense you have to click on the link to install it.

Oh MAN! Each time I now have to punch in my pincode to get further instead of going directly to the desktop. Already tried the netplwiz but that is not working. Is there any other way to let Windows know that I want to go directly to the desktop instead of typing in my PIN? (and suddenly when I try to remove the PIN from my settings, it says that the password is invalid...)

If you get wrong password just go to I forgot my password, and go thru motions it guides you thru to change it.. That's what I had to do few days ago.

Forced the update via MCT. Looks as if nothing is broken so far.

Tenacity my friend, tenacity. If you don't succeed at first... ..ask somebody else and it fixes itself fast.

Was that with your laptop? If it was, unplug the cooling mat, because most likely, it has a USB hub causing havoc.

No, it was my desktop. An ASUS Z170 ROG Maximus Hero VIII with an i7 6700K, 16GB Ram and an SSD. Its used for my recording studio. I haven't tried my Laptop yet but I don't use a "cooling mat".

Not so if you're in the RP ring - there's a 'magic window' where you can simply opt out once you get the official release. So if you're running 19041.246 in the RP ring now, you have the option to opt out now. Sometime relatively soon, RP will start getting new stuff again, and then you can't get out without a clean install. MS has generally been clear about when time is up.
Simple way to get out of insider rings --simply restore a non insider build on your system -- done.
