    So this build is identical to the last Preview release, will all the ESENT errors in Event Viewer and the Defrag issues? Odd that people are rushing to install this version with all the known issues.
    I've not got ESENT errors but then I never did. Defrag is still toast.

    Hi there
    with faster and faster internet (some of us are on 10Gb/s these days) I'd have thought the effort of getting a 3.9GB download to 2.5GB is hardly worth the time and effort -- are these developers still using acoustic couplers and Hayes 2400 Baud modems !!!!

    I think most of us would rather have Windows functionality working properly than worrying about the trivially reduced bit of a download !!!!

    Cheers

    Maybe some exceptions, somebody with very limited storage like netbooks or tablets, some have as little as 32GB. Another one would be download limits on their ISP plans. my plan for instance limits to 150GB a month after which speed dips to 2 mbps, hardly usable and would take hours to download. Internet speeds are extremely limited in some parts of the world.

    I think it's curiosity -- some people always want to try out the latest builds -- nothing wrong with that -- somebody has to do serious testing --seems Ms obviously don't !!! --also with Virtual Machine technology one can do a lot of decent testing without any issues to your running machines as well -- especially as it's easier then to have 2 screens for comparison --VM and the Host.

    A lot of hardware can also now be decently tested on VM's as well using HYPERVISORS such as ESXI, XEN, KVM/QEMU and HYPER-V.

    Couldn't agree more. The trade off for that reduced download is a lot more processing after the download. Patching files is a lot more work than just replacing them with new ones. My tests, first when 1903 was released and now with 2004, show that it can take twice as long to upgrade using UUP than with an ISO.

    How long does the 2004 upgrade take using Windows Update?

    Hi there
    I think after all this COVID 19 stuff -- faster and uncapped Internet will become the norm in pretty well the whole planet -- without going into political areas - govts around the world will realize infrastructure spending on improving broadband will become a much higher priority than possibly a load of " big vanity projects" which would now seem to be redundant and not fit for purpose in the new way of working and communicating.

    @Bree
    agreed -- compare time taken to create an ISO via UUPDUMP when there's a load of updates incorporated - to just starting with the iso in the first place !!!!! although there's nothing wrong in using UUPDUMP for trying out fast / slow ring builds without joining the program !!!!.

    It's not just UUPDump. The standard Windows Update process to upgrade any consumer PC is by using UUP. Anyone who leaves it up to windows update to upgrade their PC is in for a long wait. The fact that it all happens in the background means that many may not notice (or complain).

    For posterity: I'm not offered this update myself yet, however I spotted that compattelrunner.exe process started kicking in frequently from yesterday onwards (does not have good reason, I've not been installing anything new). So expect an invite over the coming days

    Irrespective of the above: I plan to sit tight until July probably, especially in the view of existing bugs reported upfront (doh!).

    Like many others I'm not so keen on jumping onboard this new update.
