Test upgrade in virtual machine, some quick results:
    - fully functional programs spitefully uninstalled
    - all shim database corrections (appcompatflags) in registry are gone
    - privacy & winupdate settings are damaged
    - previously blocked (start = 4) windefend service malware is back
    - previously uninstalled onedrive bloatware is back.
On physical systems, ruined device drivers are expected.
    Filth as usually.

    ???
DTlite4471 work without problems in win10 from 1511 to 2004. Each feature update (except 1909 I think) uninstalls them. New installation requires shim db correction. And every 6 months the whole circus repeats again. Do you think this is normal?

Cliff, if I opt out now will I get the release tomorrow with official release?
I don't know if you'll get the final release.
Are you already on the slow ring or Release Preview and have 19041.264?

If you already are on that build and flip the switch now, you'll need to wait until the next upgrade in November or when ever it comes.

It's not really a problem, if on release preview ring, as you will not receive any new builds until the next release preview comes out. And then the nightmare will be over.

The Windows.iso for Home 64 bit is 3.85 gb.
The Media Creation Tool is about 19 mb.
Thanks for the info. I want to know size of download for direct update not with iso.

For those having problems updating or it finishing the upgrade:
    The main culprits
    • Bluetooth device( Realtek Bluetooth radios)
    • Conexant ISST audio drivers
    • Variable refresh rate not working as expected on devices with Intel iGPU
    • Issue with older drivers for Nvidia display adapters (GPU)

Nvidia cards on a 32bit system most likely the cause of having a too old driver(drivers with a version below 358.00.)

The Variable refresh rate you can try turning it off on your monito and GPU's settings, but will then have to leave it off until Intel and Microsoft get it fixed.

    For Bluetooth, go wired
I don't use any Bluetooth products because of latency and in the case of headsets; compression artifacts.

WU is paused until 10/18/2020. I’ll keep watching until I am comfortable that WU won’t force v.2004 on my system, or that’s not going to trash something important. I want to thank all of those early adopters figuring out issues while I quake in fear of the unknown.
It presents as an optional update. You have to press Download & Install to get it.

    Hi folks

For Blu tooth - these days with decent headphones the latency issue is really non problematical as far as playing just music is concerned -- I agree though for video / films etc then wired is the only sensible solution --this is true whatever version of Windows you have.

As far as daemon tools is concerned -- I assumed this program hasn't been needed since Windows 7 days as things like iso's etc (virtual drives) have been internal to "bog standard" Windows since Windows 8 --so not sure what it brings to the table. For an ISO -- in file explorer just right mouse click on the iso and choose mount --or simply just click on the iso and it will automatically mount as a virtual DVD drive.

What I DO find more annoying is something that should be "Bog standard" in Windows is that Networking doesn't work properly on this release -- at least on my systems I can only access Networked devices by supplying an IP address --File explorer network browsing fails to see any Non Windows (NAS type) servers or devices.

This isn't a mega problem for those who know how to find the IP address of a NAS device and connect to it --but for a lot of HOME users who have "Non computer" Gurus coming round at times and want to access mult-media from your NAS servers on their laptops -not a satisfactory outcome -- added to which my NAS's (X2) get their IP via DHCP so it's not always the same.

For Blu tooth - these days with decent headphones the latency issue is really non problematical as far as playing music is concerned -- I agree though for video / films etc then wired is the only sensible solution --this is true whatever version of Windows you have.

    Cheers

There is no precise figure available for that.

The ISO is what's called a canonical build, an install set that contains full copies of all the system files. By 'direct download' I presume you mean allowing Windows Update to download and install the update. This uses the Unified Update Platform (UUP) which works somewhat differently. How big your download will be depends on how up to date is the build that you are updating from.

    Microsoft said:
...one of the biggest benefits UUP brings to our customers is a reduction in download size of build updates on PCs....

A differential download package contains only the changes that have been made since the last time you updated your device, rather than a full build....

...users can expect their download size to decrease by approximately 35% when going from one major update of Windows to another.
An update on Unified Update Platform (UUP) for Windows 10

As a rule of thumb, expect about 35% less than the size of the canonical build. So if the ISO for x64 2004 is 3.9GB, then it could about 2.5GB. It's not possible to be any more precise than that.

    Hi there
with faster and faster internet (some of us are on 10Gb/s these days) I'd have thought the effort of getting a 3.9GB download to 2.5GB is hardly worth the time and effort -- are these developers still using acoustic couplers and Hayes 2400 Baud modems !!!!

I think most of us would rather have Windows functionality working properly than worrying about the trivially reduced size of a download !!!!-- even on 100Mb/s - 1Gb/s internet connections the difference in download time isn't worth even measuring !!! and on more average based speeds it's still short enough to be ignored.

    Cheers

So this build is identical to the last Preview release, will all the ESENT errors in Event Viewer and the Defrag issues? Odd that people are rushing to install this version with all the known issues.
