" Still "Investigating" ".............thinking of rolling back to 1909 ( latest Macrium backup of 1909 is from 13-6 ) , the longer you wait , the harder it gets , have to update from 13-6 ............
Though some things running better in 2004 , the bugs in this upgrade are stubborn , dont see them fixed soon................

Next CU is 14-7 so you have a while to wait.

Still no luck with 2004 on my old laptop. Whenever I check for updates, it's always offered. But if I download and install, it starts griping about not being able to find a driver for something (Utility support driver.msi). I have no idea what that's for. Searching in my computers and online hasn't turned up any driver by that name.

Well then you should understand this is really nothing new - all OS upgrades re prone to bugs and such. As bad as this one is as far as being ready for prime time, it wasn't pulled like 1903 was for a short period. That said, being so many machines can't be upgraded because of some magical MS lock, perhaps this should have been pulled as well until fixed.

Many (not me) already felt like Windows went "off-track" with the introduction of Windows 8, and now further with 10. I myself embraced the change... but then I'm a geek at heart

Anyway, overall I agree this latest upgrade release is an utter fiasco.
    Hi Folks,

I didn't expect that many reactions from my post, but as I can see you do understand where I am coming from...

Yep, 7 year MS MVP. That's why I quit. Love the OS and the peeps that post but don't understand MS's philosophy

Don't know if it will help you or not, but driver.msi is an installer file, a MicroSoft Installer. They are not limited to MS, it's just a form of packaged installer. Firefox uses them, too. Usually, anything installed via a .msi will show up in Reliability History as an installation.

Thanks for that. Yes, I know .msi files are MS's format. But it unfortunately doesn't tell me what the utility in the file name is. I thought it could have something to do with the touch pad disabled in the BIOS, but turning that back on showed it worked fine and 2004 still wanted the driver. I've checked out every program and device on the laptop and nothing fails to work correctly. There's no indication in Device Manager that anything is missing a driver.

Do you have 7-Zip? You can open a .msi file in 7-Zip File Manager and browse its contents.

Today, I downloaded the 2004 ISO using Rufus, and also used the Update Assistant to download and install.

In testing earlier this month, I was able to install using both methods, but now, Microsoft is displaying a message that the PC is not ready.

This is not the same as the display in Update & Security...the install actually stops cleanly and displays the message.

I am actually happy to see that, since many "seekers" were able to force install when it was initially released, and wound up with multiple issues.

This part has me a little baffled. Could you explain little more, please? Sounds like it installs then says it's not ready. My poor brain is

".the install actually stops cleanly and displays the message."
