    @Silky, i disagree with jacee that 2004 is "bug" filled. As far as I'm concerned on my systems that have updated there's only one significant bug, the defrag/trim issue.

    I do agree that you shouldn't worry about getting 2004. Bar a makeover for Cortana I'm hard pressed to see any significant changes or improvements over 1909.

    Duly noted. Thank you for always being "Johnny on the spot".

    @Silky
    your worry over upgrading using the link I provided really begs the question that do you create image backups of your system? If you did then this would be a non issue anyway. Just bought a new laptop and created an image. No update to 2004 showing at all so forced it and all ok. Did it knowing I could restore an image in minutes. Here's a good tutorial on backup and restore using Macrium free,

    Hey I appreciate the follow up there. I'm a Macrium Reflect evangelist, thanks to this forum. Ohhhh, I got backups buddy! Anyway, yeah, I considered forcing it using the link you provided. I considered that if it went south, I could restore/revert. But what I guess I was really more interested in can be captured by the following:

    Is there something wrong if I'm still "not ready", considering its release in May?

    What I've gleaned from the replies to my original question is that Microsoft will bless my machine when it deems appropriate. Further, probably the best I can do to see if MS is erroneously deeming me unfit for 2004, is try the portable Windows Update tool referenced by f14Tomcat as a quasi diagnostic to see if there's a difference. Further, so far, the update isn't reported as having any obvious teeth yet.

    So given all of that, I'm told to simply "chill". And I can live with that.

    I appreciate the time and consideration in your help.

    That's great. I'm just the impatient type and need things done ( even if it turns out bad)

    Hey, but you have a recovery strategy, right? That makes it easier to be bold (smile)

    Silky.....

    Fabler is so much the "get it done, I don't want to wait" kind of guy, she drove is mother to hospital to give birth.

    I remember you turned into a Macrium Guru a while back. With all that, and eager helpers here, why don't you just do what you secretly want to and upgrade the blasted thing!

    HAHAHA! You are such a tease! I backed up in preparation of the forced upgrade, and while I feel a little slighted by my master (Microsoft), when the cognoscenti here said it's better to wait, I decided that was the sage route. Besides, you know what happens...

    You upgrade, everything seems fine, you go about your business. Then a week later, something funky happens - was it the upgrade? Do I roll back to that state a week ago?

    Meh, better to wait until I'm blessed by the Gods.

    I'm marking post #1108 as your final answer. (until you change your mind, of course......... )
