The fact that MS has not acknowledged the Optimize SSD issue, or done anything about it, makes me wonder if they consider this a new "Feature".

It is my understanding that when you Optimize an SSD with Disk Defragmenter that all it does is perform a TRIM.
Could it be that MS considers this OK? Even beneficial?
Before all this, when TRIM is enabled in Windows, how and when was the procedure regularly run? And how?
It actually never worked too good, all it has to do is to send Trim command to SSD at a schedule determined by Maintenance schedule I think every 15 days by default. Now when it's not working properly some fear it may defrag or do some other nasty thing to SSDs so turning it Off is a precaution. Auto defrag of HDDs is also outdated, no need for long time now.

" turning it Off is a precaution " ................right ! Untill MS fixes this bug...........a manual trim once a week/month does the job perfectly also !

    Hi,
Firmware optimizes ssd's simply being in hibernation.
Not really sure what this means. Can you expand on this a bit?

SSD needs "quiet time" for FW to do it, Simply leaving PC on in BIOS also simulates hibernation"sleep, on but doing nothing.

That would be "Garbage Collection" over and above Trim.

Not true,GB is built into the SSD controller to run along with Trim and runs regardless of the OS invoking it.

"With TRIM, an SSD is no longer forced to save pages belonging to deleted files. TRIM doesn't obviate the need for garbage collection!

Ask Ars: “My SSD does garbage collection, so I don’t need TRIM… right?” | Ars Technica.

My bog-standard ThinkPad T450s is showing in WU not yet ready for the Windows 10 2004 Feature Update from v. 1909 Pro. I'm not concerned as I've no intention of 'upgrading' for a few months yet, but I can't see anything in my specs that correlate with Windows Updates v 2004 list of reasons that the up date's not bering offered. My BIOS, drivers and Windows updates are all up-to-date (checked out with Belarc Advisor). Just wondering lf others with ThinkPads of a similar vintage are also 'on hold' for the moment? As I said, I've no desire to upgrade yet even if 2004 is offered, just interested to know how the updates are being metered out.
My Thinkpad T470s has also not been offered the 2004 update. But to resolve an issue on the previous update (the non functioning of the Sierra Wireless EM7455 WAN-card) I was advised to force the update to 2004. So I did, and it is now running smoothly on 2004 and the WAN-fault is resolved. But as you said, no information of why no automatic update to 2004

I once thought that the 2004 update would be rolled out to the newest computers first followed by older computers. It would be delayed for computers with known compatibility problems. Now I am not sure.

As for July 21 I have updated the following computers to Windows 10 2004:
    Desktop (2017), Laptop (2018), Laptop (2012), Desktop (2011)
Notice a couple of these computers are fairly old.

    Update Timeline:
    May 27, 2020 Update to 2004 (forced)
    May 30, 2020 Rollback to 1909
Jun 19, 2020 Update to 2004 (offered by Windows Update)
    Jun 25, 2020 Rollback to 1909
Jul 21, 2020 Update to 2004 (offered by Windows Update)

Note after rollowing back to 1909 the first time Windows update said I had to wait because my computer was not ready.

Newest does not necessarily mean most compatible. MS even has compatibility problems with some of its own Surface devices.
