Sounds like a good setup to me. Surprised it takes 5-6 hours to backup 1TB though. Is the 12TB (I can't even imagine a drive that size) connected via a USB 3.0 port or an eSata port?

What software did you use for backup, just curious?
I back up my both 2TB drives once per week on my 1st desktop. There is 1 full backup followed by 5 incremental backups in between. Also I have a folders with important documents that get backed up once a day. Even with a 12TB backup drive I can only keep backups for 60 days to keep from running out of space. I also have the old 6TB external drive hooked up as a second backup for the most important data I don't want to ever lose.

My 2nd desktop still has its 5TB backup drive but I don't schedule regular backups for it because I don't use it every day.

I use Acronis True Image on both my desktops. Acronis True Image on my main desktop is also used to back up my cell phone.

I don't have regular backups set up for my laptop. I try to copy anything important over to my main desktop where it get backed up automatically. However, occasionally I do a full backup using EaseUS Todo Backup to the 5TB external drive that is normally always hooked up to my 2nd desktop.

My only computer with eSATA is my 2nd desktop which is 10 years old. I have an eSATA enclosure which connects to the computer either by eSATA 3.0 Gbps or USB 2.0. USB 3.0 is much better for backup than eSATA. That is why I use the USB 3.0 external drive with faster SATA drives than the old eSATA enclosure supported.

That is what I call a great backup strategy (except for Acronis TI). Thanks for the info.

A similar BU strategy to me except for daily differentials and using Macrium Reflect. 60GB used on my Windows drive takes 15 mins to do a full image & verify.. The daily differential and verify take 5 mins. Backup is to a USB3 attached 4TB spinner.

It's a good strategy marred by poor execution by using Acronis backup software.

I know many are sponsored by Macrium, but there's nothing wrong with using Acronis other than it's name isn't Macrium. And yes, this site is exclusively pro Macrium but there are other products that also work.

    Acronis user.

I started using Acronis because I can get it for a good price. I paid $25 for Acronis True Image 2018 Standard. I like that it also backs up my phone.

I stopped using it since it is poorly engineered and supported. Best of luck when you try to remove all traces of it on uninstalling it.

I'm not aware of anyone here sponsored by Macrium. We just like to share our experience of software that works well, even the free version.

As I said, nothing wrong with it other than it's not named Macrium and somebody said its not good. We hear the same thing about Norton, Acrobat Reader, Edge... etc. Somebody says it sucks and a train follows.

I've been using Acronis for years without issue. Currently using ATI 2018. Anyway, we all have opinions so I'm sticking by mine just as others are sticking by theirs. Moving on.
