    Hi,
    I sure wouldn't use 10's restore.

I have backups images for my computers but did not use them to go back to 1909. If you don't wait too long you can do it this way.

    Start > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery
There should be an option to go back to the previous version of Windows.
In my case I went back from 2004 to 1909.

Note that this option is only available for one month. After that it is automatically removed by Windows.

Of course if I had waited too long I would have no other option but to use the backup image to go back to 1909.
It's only there for 10 days. Far better to image.

We can extend windows.old till 60 days, just open command prompt admin

    DISM /Online /Set-OSUninstallWindow /Value:60

    Check: DISM /Online /Get-OSUninstallWindow

Sure I could have done that but restoring it from an image backup would have taken more than five hours. I know because I just backed up my 2TB NVME SSD boot drive yesterday.

Using the Windows Recovery option to go back to 1909 only took 10 minutes.

Ouch. My Windows is mostly separate from data so only 60GB used. I restored an image from 2 days ago this afternoon in 4 minutes using Macrium's Rapid Delta Restore.

Sounds like you need to look at splitting the OS and data, if you care about that kind of backup/recovery time. It would drive me nuts and I'm not a fan of splitting OS and data. I would definitely partition the 2TB Nvme drive and split OS and data in this case.

I don't for my 1TB SSD because I still have almost 700GB free and don't expect to ever use much more than that.

I never said my data was on my boot drive. I also have a 2TB hard drive for data.

Since you brought it up I used to use a small NVME SSD (500GB) for Windows, a 2nd drive (1TB) for games and other programs, and a 3rd drive (2TB) for data. I had been doing this for over ten years. I finally concluded that having Windows and programs on separate drives was getting to be a real pain to rebuild when I had to do that.

Back in January I decided to get a bigger boot SSD (1TB). About the same time I received a status warning that my 1TB hard drive may be failing. I then decided to instead get an NVME M.2 SSD 2TB boot drive for both Windows and all my games and programs. I would continue to use the 2TB hard drive for data.

Note that my 2TB boot drive has about 1TB free and my 2TB data drive only has about 500GB free.

BTW, I had been using an 6TB WD My Book external hard drive for backups. Since I had occasionally run out of space on it I replaced it with a 12TB WD Elements external drive that was on sale.

Sounds like a good setup to me. Surprised it takes 5-6 hours to backup 1TB though. Is the 12TB (I can't even imagine a drive that size) connected via a USB 3.0 port or an eSata port?

What software did you use for backup, just curious?
