Same error I got on an external 1 TB USB HDD.

2004 seems to think it's an SSD, and tried to perform a retrim.

The drive is fine and defrags using UltraDefrag.

    It's them.
MS obviously hasn't done elementary software testing to find such problems judging by the widespread reports here.

The Event ID 642 - ESENT error

svchost (3168,D,50) SRUJet: The database format feature version 9180 (0x23dc) could not be used due to the current database format 1568.20.0, controlled by the parameter 0x410022D8 (8920 | JET_efvAllowHigherPersistedFormat).

seems to be related to the Catalog Database in C:\Windows\System32\catroot2

I deleted all files in catroot2 in the Recovery Environment.

They are recreated again on reboot.

It eliminated most of the 642's but not all.

    Regarding Defrag/Optimize, I had a different issue.

It apparently thinks that one of my external USB HDD's is an SSD.

The Media Type is correct, but defrag it says it can't retrim it (of course it can't).

    Works fine in 1909.

Third party defrag tool (UltraDefrag) works correctly in 2004.

After a couple days testing 2004, I rolled back to 1909.
I've had that defrag issue with trying to retrim external HDDs some time ago while it was still in Release Preview as have others. I've not tried it since release but it's the same build so I expect the same behaviour.

Does Microsoft have a dedicated website for civilians to report these and other kinds of problems?

This is probably well known, but I've never bothered thinking about it til now.

Any one can report these issue using the Feedback Hub which is an App that is installed by default. All of these issues have been reported on there many times.

Reported the "ESENT id=642 " eventlog to the MS Technical Service .
They say its a "not important warning" and we should ignore the eventviewer .
So , dont look in it anymore.........!! ( very easy solution for MS , imo )

Seems we have to accept the "id=642" , I dont expect a working solution soon , certainly not from MS...............

Then you accept the issue it won't be fixed since only Microsoft can do so.

I reset Event Viewer yesterday and today a lot of warnings and errors, looks like there's something wrong with Defrag, more than just display.
    Attachment 281773

Same here, applies only to the external HDD ???

On a positive note Night Light finally works on my machine. It had stopped working at least a year ago, maybe more. Even a clean install of 1909 several months ago didn't fix it. Just tried it and this update seems to have fixed it.

    Hi-
I have a fairly new Lenovo Idea Center, all-in-one desktop, powered by an AMD Ryzen processor and an AMD GPU. I am currently running Windows 1909. Do you think I can safely upgrade to 2004 using MS' Upgrade Assistant, or should I continue to wait for WU? BTW, I've seen no notifications that MS has rolled out 2004 for AMD-based systems. It appears to me that Intel-based systems are MS' priority, since these systems represent the majority of their installed customers. Your advice
and thoughts on this subject are appreciated. Thanks.
