Another Fluke in 2004 is that does not wake properly from sleep on my AMD-based PC (2019 Lenovo IdeaCenter desktop). When waking up 2004 presents me with a blank screen; the only workaround is to restart Win 10. So I restored 1909 and all is well again. My upgrade to 2004 is being put on hold.

    Cheers.

The file is still in use, making it un-deletable. Looks like it should have been closed after the upgrade completed, but wasn't.

Noels7 had the same problem and posted their solution here.

Win 10 update from Version 1909 to 2004

Edit: worked like a charm for me.
Thanks for the heads up Bree. I am going to try it.

Going to be real. 2004 has been super buggy for me. Quirks with the Win+Shift+S keyboard shortcut, explorer crashing, Microsoft Edge freezing, keyboard stutters... it's been a wild ride so far.

Sorry to hear that David. It seems Microsoft is hit&miss when releasing w10 big updates. I guess urgent cummulative updates are on its way.

Had a Bsod on my old machine (computer one)

ran sfc and dism . No problems after.

    Elevated command prompt sfc /scannow
    then Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

from your description you might want to add

    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
    Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

Was 2004 offered as an optional update in Windows Update? Or did you manually upgrade from an ISO?

If you forced the upgrade, then you may have bypassed the checks for known blocking issues. If you have not deleted your Windows.old folder, then you could go back to your previous version and wait for it to be offered to you.

Go Back to the Previous Version of Windows in Windows 10

So far 2004 has been trouble free on my two machines that were offered the update. There are bugs though, notably the Defrag issue where it cannot remember the last time it was run. I'm not going to update any of my other machines until they are offered the update.

Good to know. And not the end of the world! You sign up for it when you install it, right....?

I posted this thread, and kept getting an error while doing the update. So I'm fairly certain it was ready for my system, just was getting an error.

Thank you for the reminder about reverting versions - I'll wait for the next couple of updates and see.

Yep, this is true and we're all taking chances by installing an update that wasn't "offered through Windows Update". Still, the sheer number of issues here certainly make this a not ready for prime time update. It wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft pulled it temporarily much as they did for 1903. To be honest, I'm surprised this hasn't already been done.

Anyway, I'm also one of those first early adopters who also bypassed the "your PC isn't ready" warning and tried to update my backup PC. For me it was a total disaster to the point that for the first time in ever, I'm talking about holding off on an upgrade on my main rig. Some I've never ever done. And I've been running Windows since Windows 95.

All that said, we're PC enthusiasts so that's what we do... take chances.

    My two cents.

I have manually updated three PCs with no big issues so far. What I have noticed is that now there is a non-deletable file (DumpStack.log.tmp) at the root folder of C drive. I don't know what is for.

How big is the DumpStack file?

Sorry, 8KB. Can be opened with Notepad.
Well given the size that's certainly nothing to worry about, particularly if it's part of the install process.

Well Besides the Drive Optimization not remembering when SSD Trim was run, i haven't had too many issues on my main Intel I7 7700 Desktop machine, ((Laptop was offered it via Windows update, and updated that one as well)

Desktop was from Media creation tool created flash drive--((Clean install)) and so far so good, no major issues experience, and i've been testing everything i can do to make sure all is good.

Laptop had one issue despite shown in Windows update, it couldn't do something with the system reserved partion on the 128gb m.2 ssd, so i opted for media creation tool clean install as well on that PC, and working fine now from what i can tell, ((gaming more on laptop tomorrow to further test it to make sure really running without issues))

Holding off on 3rd Computer for now i think, I get very excited on updates whenever come out and i always upgraded main system and 1 secondary system immediately soon as a new update comes out
