I keep an old 2006 AMD CPU PC running the latest 32 bit version of Windows 10 as a longevity experiment. Let's see how long it continues to work and be updated. It works fine for routine work but I had to install a cheap SSD to boost the speed.

To drop the ability to run 32 bit apps would be crazy. It would ensure Windows 10 would be a disaster. Want to know how many 32 bit apps you have installed? Just look under C:\Program Files (x86) and see all the applications.
    Hi there
    I think you mis-understood or I wasn't clear

Running an X86 (32 bit) version of Windows is I think Ms was on about -- of course current Windows applications will have to run on X64 machines for the moment until these can get phased out. The original title of the thread I'm sure implies that there will be no more purely X86 versions (i.e 32 bit) versions of Windows ---- totally different ballgame to stopping 32 bit applications running on Windows.

As far as applications are concerned these days one can use "meta code" to make the source "Os agnostic" -- languages like python and ABAP (SAP's main source development language on it's massive ERP type systems used world wide) can run on any OS -- these days CPU power etc is sufficient to allow this type of "Just in Time complilation" and execution even though it doesn't deliver the fast speed of classical compliation and binary execution. The benefit is though Source is totally platform independent and therefore should be easier to debug, develop and maintain.

    Cheers

and while MS plans to slowly phase out 32bit/x86 Windows 10, they're also "unifying" win32 & UWP as the UWP-only experiment is slowly becoming a "failure"

Just be glad it hasn't slipped down to 12-bit or 8-bit.
That would have been back in my partying days. Where did the 70's go.

Google Chrome and Edge Chromium for some reason install in the (x86) folder, despite them being 64-bit programs.
