Surely my dear Holmes, the game isn't worth the candle! By happy chance, I am not a gamer, so I just use Linux. Windows came preinstalled on this computer, so I check it out from time to time, and keep it updated. Plus I've been using Windows since 1992 - inertia, you know. But it's not my main OS.
Ah, here we recognise like-minded individual - definitely when experience time frame is taken into account - but with the exception that I never believed in Linux and still don't really. Something for truly passionable minds, methinks.

Alas, it's taking the part, not winning, that counts, n'est-ce-pas, dear old Chap?

    Hi folks

unless ms can test every conceivable piece of hardware on the planet there's always going to be some issues --that's what the purpose of these releases is for -- you get a much wider test set.

A big problem is that there are so many "generic" bits of hardware around that even the same branded bit of hardware could have been made by various different factories so the specifications can't be guaranteed to be 100% comaptible even though the hardware has the same brand name.

A lot of manufacturers outsource sub component manufacturing / assembly to different factories for cheapness or to re-stock after shortages.

You can get a somewhat similar effect on some inkjet printers using "3rd party compatible inks" -- most work but some don't - and even those that don't might work on someone else's identically branded printer.

Ms isn't always the guilty party here

In general considering what's thrown at Windows it does a reasonable job -- I do get a bit mad though when base things like Networking suddenly stop working etc.

    Cheers

Yeah, this is also a good one - and it keeps stopping, doesn't it?

Normally randomly, out of the blue entirely, and this nagging hitch always was and still is present across various editions of Windows - as far as I can remember - despite all this time passing...

Restart obviously fixes it - until next tim. But unanswered questions remain...
