You can backup all your favorites by copying the following two files in another location:
    %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default\Bookmarks
    %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default\Favicons

To restore, just copy the two files, from your backup location to %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default
    @ddelo
I normally export my favourites to a HTML file using "Manage Favourites > Export Favourites" function in Edge. (Version 84.0.522.63 (Official build) (64-bit))
Does your method offer an improvement over that, would you say, or is it just another way of achieving the same thing?

Basically the copy option is very useful every time I backup all my user files, as it can be run via a script.

As for improvement, I'm not sure if the restoration of the html backup file, also restores the "favicons" of each of the favorites, as I haven't done it. If it does, then besides the scripting there is no obvious improvement.

    Thanks for those observations @ddelo

As an experiment, I backed up my favourites to an HTML file using the Export option as I outlined above, then deleted the Favourites from Edge.
Closed and reopened Edge, then Imported my favourites from said HTML file .
    Favicons are present and correct..

So it appears there is little to choose between the outcome of our methods except of course, that, as you pointed out, yours may be scripted.

Wonderful Windows....always 37 ways to do everything!!

Thanks a lot for testing and clarifying the way the html restoration works!

I use my robocopy script for backing up user files more than 2-3 times a day. As I add and delete favorites quite often, I find it quite useful to backup the favorites too, without going through the export process of Edge. And being extra careful, I always keep the last 3 backups, just in case there is a corruption somewhere!

And just to add to these two methods, there is always a quick incremental Macrium backup that can do the same thing. But I've been using my extremely fast robocopy script long before I started using Macrium, so since it's a lot faster than Macrium, I use it constantly for backing up user files.

As you said. It's nice to have alternative ways, to suite everybody's needs!

I keep Macrium for C: Drive System images, and use FreeFileSync FreeFileSync: Open Source File Synchronization & Backup Software for data and related backups, so I could include these folders in it.

This appears to do pretty much anything robocopy does, but has a GUI for we lazy people

I've never actually tried robocopy but having said that I just found this:
ROBOCOPY - Create Backup Script - Windows 7 Help Forums so may give it a try later.

Oh and I also have Windows File History running in the background all the time.

As I use Chrome as my main browser, and adopt the same backup strategy (Export to HTML), I need to find the file locations for its favourites too.

    Discussed quite well here:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...7-3d0d08ec1475

    Summary (from what I've read):

    a. If installed as an app, it can be uninstalled.
    b. If via Windows Update, then use a System Restore point (or you could restore a previously created disk image - you do use disk imaging, don't you? - so, so often recommended here).
    c. Another review of removal:
    https://news.softpedia.com/news/how-...0-530482.shtml

If you then reach a point where it is not installed, you can block its installation via WU.

Thank you very much. Let's hope I have a recent restore point. I do try to do one manually regularly because the automatic ones don't stay long due to how I have it configured. But I haven't done a manual restore point in a while so what I mean is that I hope there is an automatic one that I can use lol.

If it was the OLD Non Chromium Edge then you may get them back.

FYI you should have exported them before updating.
NO! One shouldn't have to export, especially on an auto update. This is a case of egg on Edge programmer's faces.
