UPDATE 5/12: KB4556803 Windows 10 Insider Preview Slow and RP Build 19041.264 May 12

    Hello Windows Insiders!

We are continuing to work on getting the Windows 10 May 2020 Update (20H1) ready for release. Today we are releasing Build 19041.208 to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview ring. While we originally thought that Build 19041.207 would be the final build, we made the decision to take in one more fix we felt was important to have before making the May 2020 Update generally available. We believe that Build 19041.208 is the new final build and still plan on continuing to improve the overall experience of the May 2020 Update on customers’ PCs as part of our normal servicing cadence.

Build 19041.208 (KB4558244) includes all of the 20H1 features and is cumulative and includes all the fixes released to Windows Insiders in the Slow ring in Build 19041.21 through Build 19041.207 in addition to the following fix:

    • We fixed an issue that fails to send NPLogonNotify API notifications from the credential provider framework.

Please note that the May 2020 Update will only get pushed automatically to a subset of Windows Insiders in the Release Preview ring at first. Everyone else can manually go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and manually check for updates and choose to install the May 2020 Update.

    Known issues

We want to make people aware of the following known issues that may impact a small group of people which we intend to fix via upcoming servicing releases:

    • Windows Mixed Reality may not work correctly for many users on the May 2020 Update. If you regularly use Windows Mixed Reality, we recommend holding off taking the May 2020 Update via Release Preview for now. We are working on a fix which we hope to release in early May.
    • We are aware of an issue where using the DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) tool to repair corruption on systems running the May 2020 Update does not always report the correct status. This will be fixed in an upcoming servicing release.
    • Some apps utilize the ImeMode property to control the IME (Input Method Editor) mode for individual text entry fields to increase typing efficiency. This functionality does not work correctly currently in the May 2020 Update. For example, a number field will not automatically switch to a mode that is best optimized for Japanese numerical input. This issue will be fixed in an upcoming servicing update. To work around this issue in the short term, either manually switch the input mode when typing, or set the Compatibility ‘Use previous version’ checkbox for the impacted keyboard via Settings > Time & Language.

    Info for IT Pros

Windows Insider Program for Business participants who are running May 2020 Update (also referred to as version 2004) builds from WSUS or in the Slow or Release Preview ring can now request Microsoft Support. This support offering is intended to help resolve issues with business use case scenarios and is limited to Windows 10 Enterprise and Pro editions customers. If you run into a severe issue that prevents you or other users in your organization from using a device or compromises security or personal data, you can use our online form to request assistance directly from Microsoft Support*—at no cost to you:

so now MS declares build 19041.208 as "final" build rather than 19041.207 about 2 weeks ago
that will definitely push back the general release of the May 2020 Update closer past Memorial Day weekend - near the end of May

This ZDNet article about the May 2020 Update was updated recently with the following:

Update (April 30): As I mentioned on the Windows Weekly podcast recently, these dates were pushed back by Microsoft, possibly because the team wanted to patch a zero-day exploit before pushing the code to OEMs and users. I hear OEMs now are set to get the code May 5; developers on May 12; and general availability is slated for May 28. Again, Microsoft has not announced this officially and these dates may change yet again.

    Hi folks

will try this on a VM first

I have 2 main issues so far with these insider / preview builds which AFAIK still haven't been fixed - I fairly trivial and the other a mega problem.

    1) Language settings -- some screens don't appear in chosen language, other screens have bits and pieces --i.e a dogs dinner of a mess.

    2) I can't (at least on my systems) get Network browsing to work to Non Windows machines (i.e remote NAS servers, tablets, phones) without supplying a specific IP address.

Both 1) and 2) currently work OK on the 1033/1909 815 build.

Will post back later but I really hope networking is fixed --this seems to be a bit strange if we are this near to the May release if it doesn't work properly.

Please also Ms change File explorer so we can be able to browse full path / file names >266 chars -- the facility is there now in Windows --for example using FileZilla as sFTP to access files on a remote server (Linux) the full file names are shown - but when after transfer using Windows file explorer the wretched names are shown up in 8.3 format.

Things like Optimise drive etc aren't really mega important any more with modern machines and decent HDD/SDD's

    Cheers

This cannot be final none of the bugs 207 had are fixed in 208, its like all feedback provided gets ignored. Someone at Microsoft is clearly delusional, Just release the current fast build as the May update at least things work.

    Hi there
Thanks for that info -- seems a bummer -- still as a VM it's still worth testing other things -- that's why I like VM's since you aren't stuck with something if it doesn't work - just start a working VM -- on a "Real Machine" you either have to put up with the defect(s) or roll back. With the VM youcan simply update if and when the relevent problems are fixed without having to re-do an entire upgrade / re-install from the previous release.

    Cheers

Many system bugs have been there quite a while.
But Microsoft finds it more important to work on Your Phone for smart phones, new Kaomoji and Emoji and other social media crap.

When I put my tin foil hat onWindows 10 May 2020 Update 20H1 RP build 19041.208 - April 30-tinfoil.gif I "believe" I know the answer to this:
During Social Distancing, Social Media equals Social Engineering equals Societal Control!
