I couldn't find the lithography size of this new beast, is it still 14 nm?

    Thanks for that info AMDMan.

    TinMar; yes, still 14 nanometers.

11th gen desktops are supposed to be "Rocket Lake" and will also be 14 nm.

12th gen "Alder Lake" is supposed to be 10 nm; but won't arrive on desktops till at least late 2021. I've even seen rumors Intel may go to 7 nm on desktops, bypassing 10 nm desktops. Who knows. Intel stock was knocked down a week or two ago due to delays announced.

7 nm supposedly not until at least late 2022.

Why is Intel so late to get to 7nm? I don't understand all of this, but isn't AMD already on it? If they can, why can't Intel do it before 2022?

7 nm isn't the end-all and be-all, but like any publicly traded company, Intel always has to deal with expectations. The company remains highly profitable.

Chief Engineering Officer Murthy Renduchintala is quitting immediately; Intel said it is reorganizing its technology, systems architecture and client group. Its new leaders will report directly to Chief Executive Officer Bob Swan.

Renduchintala was one of several key hires from outside Intel, which had been famous in Silicon Valley for developing and promoting talent from within. He was hired as part of a strategy to go after broader markets than the central processing units, or CPUs, the company became known for in the PC era.

The first 7nm chips meant for personal computers and data centers may not arrive until early 2023.

Apple has announced that it will transition away from using Intel chips in MAC computers after almost 15 years.
