    I've noticed several times that an update may not be finished but there is the Upgrade and Shutdown or Upgrade and Restart choices which has meant there was a previous process that needs completion by the restart and the update in process at the time usually continues where it left off.

    The main culprit seems to be SysMain (the process formerly known as SuperFetch). This can take up to 10 minutes to settle down, but once it has your system should (in theory) be faster. It's a moot point whether it's of any benefit with an SSD, but seems effective for HDDs.

    Enable or Disable SuperFetch in Windows
    I rarely start up Windows, preferring to Sleep or Hibernate my laptops. My 'daily use' machine is System One below, even with its old HDD it resumes to the desktop in a couple of seconds. It's been more that two weeks since it was last started up after last Patch Tuesday's CU.

    Attachment 276943
    Thanks Bree I will investigate this 'Superfetch' as I only have HDD's. And,

    I'm the same way I rarely start or restart and definitely no hibernation, no fast start, the only time I start or restart is when 10 tells me it needs it. It sure ain't like the old days.

    Had a similar problem with KB4550945. It was installed last Friday. It completed and wanted a restart, which I obliged. This system gets powered off at night, so it gets powered up everyday. That cycle continued thru the weekend and the first 3 days of this week, until this AM. WU had a CU called KB4550945. I let it install again, took maybe a minute and was complete. Nothing really changed other than it it had to be restarted again, but nothing changed ?. PS: only on 1 of 3 W10 systems in this house.

    For some reason this update caused some pretty nasty performance degradation on my laptop that was system wide. Having it uninstalled and my laptop is extremely responsive and everything is buttery smooth again.

    I'm about ready to also uninstall it. Noticed today that I'm no longer receiving "USB Drives" Safe removal messages ? Had them before, but not after.

    @storageman
    The missing "Safely Remove Hardware" warning may be by design:
    Windows 10 now lets you pull out USB drives without 'safely removing' them

    Try this fix. It has worked for me every time the notification goes missing (and it happens randomly every now and then)

    It's working as it should. But had issues installing the Defender signature as new defender update occurred right before it.
