Windows 10 Insider Preview Fast Build 19592.1001 - March 25 Insider

Above is a screenshot from a Hyper-V VM of Ubuntu 19.10 upgraded to 20.04. Hyper-V works pretty well except I do not yet how to remote logon to a Linux VM so I can use the host hardware. Any help here. TIA

I'm guessing Wednesday, April 8, TC. I think the last one was on Wednesday.

Most likely you are right Wynona. Not only that but I'd bet the next build will be 19597 - they are working it seems 5x1 daily builds and 2 days testing. In the meantime I got bored with Ubuntu so installed Fedora 32 pre-release beta and upgraded to Fedora 33 (Rawhide). VMware WS i15.5.2 installed perfectly after applying the host-modules patch from Github.

Actually installing this from a 19892VM in Edge Beta. The above text copied from Firefox after install VMware tools.
Not sure whether VMM has bi-directional cut-and-paster -- @jimbo45??

VMWare does have bi-directional cut and paste -- at least on my Host system -- I assume you mean data from HOST can be pasted into VM and data from VM can be pasted into Host.

Easy way to test this is to say use snipping tool in Windows VM , copy the image to clipboard, switch to the HOST and then paste into say pictures directory in your /home on the Host.

I haven't tried with Windows VM on Windows host though. ( I'm Using kernel 5.5.13-arch2-1 so probably we'll see 5.6 possibly sometime soon and maybe even 6.0 although in current situation not sure who would be working on that)

For remote logon to a Windows VM from a Linux Host -- use SSH for command line (enable also on Windows) -- to get the GUI you'll need to enable an "X-server" over SSH -- this is where it gets a bit tricky since there's two methods now in Linux of running X-servers --the older XORG system and the new Wayland system -- I can make it work via XORG but not via Wayland. You can also use KRDP (if using KDE desktop) or an RDP equivalent if using different desktops -- here again Wayland produces unpredictable results.

For a GUI file transfer though install filezilla on the HOST (access files on the VM via sftp://ipaddress of vm)

If you can make a GUI logon work via WAYLAND I'd be interested -- XORG is easy enough but it won't be around for long.

Final note --it's much harder THE OTHER WAY AROUND -- logging on to a remote Linux Host FROM Windows and getting the full GUI desktop -- obviously no problem though using SSH to logon and get command line -- on the HOST though enable root access in the config file if you want to logon to the remote Linux system as root.

Passing hardware through to a Linux VM created by HYPER-V is a bit "Outside my pay grade" but it's easy enough on KEMU/KVM VM's -- simply in the configuration add your hardware. (You'll need to install any specific hardware drivers too if you want to use the VM to access the OS's (VM itself) passed through hardware e.g Video drivers etc

Ya lost me when you started to talk about Ubuntu. I still haven't tried it, although I'm very interested. Too much life in the way!

Definitely no one should feel comfortable doing this, I agree! Brummyfan is lucky... I've even got Win10 Pro policy set to reject Win10 driver updates--it's been set this way for months and appears to be working 100% as I've yet to have Win10 update slip in a driver unannounced. Recommend for bios updates and hardware drivers people go to the web sites of the companies that manufacture their hardware devices, or the manufacturer of their laptops, etc, to obtain their drivers and bios updates!

I'm still on 1909 build 18363.752, and I'm thinking of getting back onto the Fast Ring again. But I'm unsure whether to jump on 19592 as quite a few folks here seem less than enamored of the build. I've got a full back up of this installed build with the free version of Macrum Reflect (which gets updated as frequently as the commercial version, if someone is interested), so I wouldn't be risking much except for time... (And with the COVID-19 panic governments everywhere are creating presently, time is something I have plenty of right now, hopefully!) Think this one is worth jumping on, or do you advise waiting on the next build?--I'm in the Release Preview ring, atm.

@waltc there isnt much time left on the current fast ring. Might as well wait for the next round as the few remaining updates will continue to be small ones.
