Changed a Shared VMware (15.5.2) VM under openSUSE Tumbleweed from Slow to Fast Ring and am downloading this build now. At the same time, I'm upgrading the host to kernel-vanilla-5.6.rc6-1.1.g5c2f002.x86_64 which is interesting because the ubuntu kernel 5.6 failed to compile (I'm not doing the compiling!). So a reboot is in the offing. I'm going to be upgrading all my linux distros before I upgrade the Windows host system (and all its VMs!).
    Hi there
working fine with latest version of VMWare (not the 20H1 trial version) on arch linux / kernel 5.5.9
I've found on Linux it's best to not have the latest kernel but usually one a few days older --arch updates pretty quickly - although given the times who knows what people are around to do this stuff.

Please people ALL STAY SAFE - especially some of the older folks who are on this forum (and of course all the moderators etc) who we all need to keep the forum going through this period.

    Cheers

You may not have seen my most recent post (a reply to f14tocmcat). I am running a kernel for fedora 33 (which won't even branch from rawhide for a few months) viz. 5.6.0-0.rc6.git0.1.fc33.x86_64. And, at least in this instance, VMM (QEMU/KVM) is running better thlan VMware. You can see from the screenshot I copied over your post on running nested virturalization with QEMU/KVM. But I have not tried it yet - is is very late (or rather early). This forum gets me pulling all-nighters. Certainly all the softies are working remotely - the MS campus must be a ghost town.

Bonus. A screenshot of my Fedora Gnome Background.

Yes - sane problem with the "regular" (not shared) vm. I working to update Manjaro now. I can download the ISO using this distro - unlike openSUSE (for the moment).

Actually, it IS Vmware. I just updated a VM I created on Fedora Rawhide (running a Fedora 33 kernel! 5.6.0-0.rc6.git0.1.fc33.x86_64) using VMM (QEMU/KVM),

    Attachment 270968
You'll have to pardon me, but I get lost real fast when you start going thru all the shared distros of what you're working with, and what's updating what.

Bottom, line..... with what I have, just a plain old VM running 15.2.2 Player, are you saying I need to wait for VMWare to fix, or it's something in the Setup in WU and/or the ISO?

Sorry I can't answer all your questions but then again if I could VMware (Dell Technologies) would be paying me the big bucks. I am basically a gunslinger and was when I was working in corporate tech. You can imagine how well I got on with management!. Anyway I did succeed in updating a VMware 15.5.2 VM but I don't know if you can do this with Player because the VM was created with a virtual NVMe hard disk. I just happened to have one of these lyhing around. I did have to pass thru a green screen (less than or equal to error) but the update was incredibly fast. Whether this is do to the host distro (Fedora Rawhide with kernel 5.6 rc6 I haven't the faintest clue. Well after these adventures I'll be booting to Windows and see what gives there - particularly with my Hyper-V VM.

    cheers,

    mf

    Hi folks
Downloaded and created the ISO via UUPDUMP and it installed very quickly

Runs fine on KVM/QEMU as a VM (and also on VMWare workstation) -- KVM and VMWare can both run concurrently -- I imagine same would be true with Virtual Box but I don't really like Virtual Box so I can't say.

Will be trying later installing on a physical Windows Host and then trying HYPER-V .

Plenty of time currently -- I only do 3 days a week these days and all travel is suspended until at least middle of May for me - work from Home is the normal.

BTW we are doing here lot's of "Virtual Pub meets" and Dinner parties via SKYPE etc -- not sure where you are -- but slight shortage of Milk here but no problem with Wine, Beer, Champagne !!!!!!! etc -- 1st world problems !!!

These "Virtual Parties" are actually great fun if visits to bars / restaurants etc are restricted -- everyone seems to enjoy these and the Internet is managing absolutely OK.

    Cheers

VIA WU. The previous build was a clean install. I've gone back to it for the moment.
