Intel Rapid Storage Technology and Intel® Optane™ Memory Applications Will No Longer Be Updated (End-of-Life Notice)

The following applications are being EOL’d (end-of-life). They will no longer be available starting with Intel® RST version 18.0 currently targeted for release in Q2 2020:

    • Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) User Interface (SetupRST.exe)
    • Intel® Optane™ Memory User Interface (SetupOptaneMemory.exe)

The Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management Hardware Support Application will continue to be available from the Microsoft Store* to deliver monitoring and management capabilities for the Intel® RST storage subsystem. Note: The Intel® RST Driver is required to be installed before installing the application, read more here.

Q: Why will these applications no longer be supported?
A: The Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management Hardware Support Application combines premium Intel® RST capabilities into one easy-to-use application. It will take the place of the EOL'd applications. Future development work will focus on the health and capabilities of this application.

Q: Will these applications continue to be available to download on downloadcenter.com?
A: No new versions of these applications will be available to download on downloadcenter.com. Alternatively, the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management Hardware Support Application to manage volumes must be downloaded from the Microsoft Store. See full requirements here.

Q: Can I just go to the Microsoft Store and download the application now?
A: Yes, it's available now. See the full requirements here.

Q: Can I continue to use the Intel® RST and/or Intel® Optane™ memory application? Or, should I remove before installing the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management application?
A: We recommend that you only use the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management application to get the best support and new features and capabilities.

To remove these applications, follow these steps:

    1. Back up all data.
    2. Disable acceleration with Intel® Optane™ memory. (See how.)
    3. Restart the computer.
    4. Uninstall the application.

An old trick used to be to install the IRST software then uninstall it which left behind the high performance IRST disk controller driver e.g. iaStorAC.sys. The 'optimum' driver may also be found here Forum - Which are the "best" Intel AHCI/RAID drivers?

Does the app mentioned operate in the same way?

Ugh. Microsoft is trying to be the Amazon of hardware drivers. What could possibly go wrong?

Should I start to regret using an alias on my MS account?

so basically it turned into a UWP app, just like realtek audio console.

Advantages of DCH drivers and their separate UWP apps is, after a driver update, you do not need to go back and re-set everything back to the way you want it.

I had to constantly do that with my Realtek HDA & Nvidia drivers.

Now after updates, be it the driver or the Store app, my settings remain

I have changed all possible drivers to DCH that can be switched over.

hmm even so, i will wait upon my motherboard manufacturer to release them, as i have done so for realtek drivers.

    Thanks for the info

I have a system with the RST & 16 GB Optane card and I'm thinking of getting an SSD now that I saw 1 TB Wester Digital SSD for a bit under $100

Question: Me not being not a thoroughly up 2 date tech wiz.... Can the Optane system be moved to the secondary drive position with the SSD being the main?

If you don't know off the top of your head don't concern yourself I'll just do the old "Plug it in and see if it smokes" method.

    Yeah! An adventure!

Since Intel Rapid Storage Technology interface is being discontinued.

Where can I get the standalone driver?
It seems a bit pointless me installing both the driver and interface, then having to remove it very soon?

I always use this site to find the 'best' IRST driver Forum - Intel RST/RSTe Drivers (latest: v17.8.8.1072 WHQL/v6.2.2.1006 WHQL)

I always thought the IRST driver offered better performance than the standard Windows 10 driver. Does Intel have an alternative solution or do we just rely on the standard drivers in future?
