Thanks Geneo, JohnBurns! So my laptop so be alright as far as updating then.
I am not using either Optane nor a RAID so I have removed all Intel AHCI drivers from all my setups. I have now using MS AHCI driver only. No issues at all.
One recurring, perpetual problem with the MS AHCI driver has been the internal disk seen as removable issue on Intel systems.
Installing the Intel AHCI driver usually clears that up.
Glad to hear you are not having that problem.
Hi,
I did try to uninstall it and then optane app error when I tried to open it.
When I first installed the store app it complained I needed to update my drivers (which I did need to do). I then uninstalled the store app, updated the ISRT driver from Device Manager, installed the store app, then uninstalled the IRST control panel via the Control panel. Worked for me, though somewhat bass ackwards
Bottom line is the original Intel control panel is removed and the new one it there.
To get just the AHCI drivers out of the IRST executable:
- Right click SetupRST.exe and extract with 7Zip.
- In extracted SetupRST folder, right click RST_x64.msi and extract that
- In extracted RST_X64 folder, go to drivers.cab and extract that.
- In the extracted drivers folder, open x64.
- In X64 find iaAHCIC.inf and right click to install only the AHCI drivers.
- Recap go to E:\Downloads\SetupRST\RST_x64\drivers\x64
Then if you want the IRST app from the store get it here: https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9MZNG5HZWZ1T
Or not, as you only need it if you leave it running at start in the background, for SMART warnings if there is a problem with your disk, that's it's only use unless running software RAID OR Optane(when Optane drivers are installed too).
