I don't see what the big deal is. I am using RST for raided SSD and used this UWP app and it works fine for that purpose, though I don't have any Optane memory. At least one of those negative reviews, that it requires separate hardware and that the description didn't say so, is comical. I think this is a stupid move on Microsoft's part, but not the end of the world.Have a read of all the terrible reviews for it.
FWIW, I have 16GB Optane Memory and switching over to MS App "Intel Optane Management and Storage Managament" has caused no problems for me. I guess I'm lucky. Macrium Reflect also runs well with Optane Memory, adding the necessary drivers for backup, so at this point, it's working. If I had it to do over, I probably wound not choose the configuration with Optane Memory, however, it is fast. It took a while to get here.Have a read of all the terrible reviews for it.
NoHave a read of all the terrible reviews for it., but you don't need it if you don't use Raid or have Optane., don't really need it even if you do , even the old RST software was not a requirement or needed.
the AHCI Driver is still available as a standalone download or Windows Update will replace it if needed too I believe...

Same sort of thing here , it is generally accepted eg on WinRaid that it is best to use a RST Driver that is from the same Branch as the onboard Intel Controller Bios Number for best compatibility.... ie the latest is not the greatest when it comes to AHCI Drivers for example 11.2.0.1006 is still one of the best performing RST drivers ever, but on my x99 system the Bios version is 14.7 so I am using the best 14 series driver accord to WinRaid , ie 14.8.18.1006 from 2017.

Ah I thought we used this to control that. Going to admit now I have no idea what the relationship between RST and optane memory is on my laptop.
I have always used the Optane Memory and Storage Management software though and not the EOL ones

WRT Macrium are you talking about creating a recovery USB? I'm a little concerned that having Optane on (I've turned it off for now) is going to make restoring my backups or potentially even accessing my C drive from a recovery environment difficult.
I just built a high end system and didn't even consider Optane.

It is very useful?
I don't think it is that important, though there is a slight chance it could be. It could only matter if you are booting windows from a raided device, since once windows is booting, the RST EFI/OROM firmware in the BIOS is no longer relevant. The RST BIOS firmware is only necessary to provide a raided disk volume to boot windows from. Once windows boots, it installs the Windows RST drivers and the BIOS EFI drivers are no longer used. So it can only be important in that handoff - if it boots, there are no issues.
You do need to use the RST major version appropriate for your chipset (e.g. 17,x, 16.x,...14.x) for both the BIOS/OROM and Windows drivers though.
My new HP laptop came with 16 GB Intel Optane Memory and it's all new to me. I think the Optane Management software was installed by the manufacturer from the Microsoft Store. The version is 17.9.1006.0. I can't tell if that is what is offered in the store though. It only tells me that it's already installed. Can someone clear this up for me please?

Macrium Reflect Version Home Edition 7.2.4952 [UEFI] (64-bit), Windows 10 Version 2004 (Build 19041.329). I have been making backups and restoring them from recovery usb disk or from Macrium boot menu without turning off Optane Memory and having no problems. MR adds necessary drivers automatically. It really presents no problem for me at this point.
Also, to defragment my C disk HDD only, I use DOS defragment, (not Windows 10 Defragment) without turning off Optane Memory and that works too. (Administrative Command Prompt "defrag C: /U"). So I rarely turn off Optane Memory, but if I do, the Windows Store App Intel Optane Memory and Management works fine. BTW, since I only have 16GB Optane Memory, I am not getting any pinning errors in Windows 10 2004 - I think the pinning errors are only if you have 32 GB or more Optane Memory.
