Windows 10 KB4532693 Update Bug Reportedly Deletes User Files
Windows 10 KB4532693 update is allegedly deleting files - WindowsLatest contains reports by users.
It seems that, in some cases, users are being logged in with temporary profiles so the user files are not available until the normal profile is restored.
It seems that, in some cases, users resolve their user profile issues but then find that some files had been permanently removed. I could not make out from the reports whether this was limited to files on the user Desktop or not.
@Brink - Perhaps you'd like to add that to the main TenForums thread on this KB -
KB4532693 CU Win 10 v1903 build 18362.657 & v1909 build 18363.657

My files are still intact even after installing this update.
Nor mine.
In my humble opinion there are two groups;
- Those that have problems with Windows 10 Updates, and,
- Those that do not.
Why is that? There has to be an underlying cause.
Perhaps:
- Unknown corrupt system files that may be fine with a previous update but the new one makes your machine balk.
- Outdated Hardware / Drivers.
- A HDD or SSD that is to small or not partitioned properly.
- Incompatible antivirus software.
- Incompatible third-party software.
- Detritus from uninstalled software.
- Windows updates components need reset.
- And a host of other obscure reasons.
Maintenance and housekeeping of a computer and its peripherals is paramount to avoiding problems.
The 9year old machine I'm on now is a 7 to 10 upgrade and the only problem I had blocking the upgrade was MSE, once I uninstalled that the upgrade was a happy camper and I'd have to say v10 is running better than v7.
Another reason would be the use of stuffs for blocking telemetry.
