Microsoft Confirms Windows 10 KB4524244 Issues and Pulls the Update
Microsoft says that an improved version of the problematic KB4524244 update is in the works and will be released in the future.

jdUnionngarden Thanks for posting that. The article refers to UEFI, but I still have the older BIOS and things have been running a little strange for about a week. Spent most of the day thinking I had some kind of bug. Now I think I should roll back that update and see what happens.

The bootloader can be used to compromise any computer that's running Windows. You don't need to be a Kaspersky user.

Microsoft is not being forthcoming with details, but supposedly the only thing the security update does is blacklist the bootloader so that it won't run.

no problems encountered so far with the KB4532693 CU for v1903 on an old HP machine built in 2008.
I'll attempt to install KB4532693 on my dad's Toshiba 2013 laptop with v1909 later on today

edit 2/17 - so far so good with KB4532693 on the Toshiba laptop - no problems there either

note that I've manually obtained the KB4532693 update from MS Update Catalog, rather than thru windows update

The author of that post you link to is the victim of a very poor bit of journalism, saying...

And that article indeed says KB4532693 was pulled, and in turn say they got this info...

It's a pity that some journalists haven't learned to read.

The ZDNet article was talking about the standalone security update KB4524244 which, apart from being issued on the same day, has nothing whatsoever to do with the latest cumulative update KB4532693. It was KB4524244 that was pulled, not KB4532693.

This standalone security update has been removed and will not re-offered from Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) or Microsoft Update Catalog. Note This does not affect any other update, including Latest Cumulative Update (LCU)...
