I have all three of my machines set to basic.
Just did an experiment. Set my Release Preview machine to Basic. A couple of hours later I get a popup message say my Insider account needs attention and that I must set my diagnostics to full to get future builds.

I have always gotten that when I've, e.g., brought a non-Insider system set to basic into the Insider Program.

I can understand microsoft's angst if you're running insider builds and helping them work out the kinks, this is from a fellow member that has concerns about data and telemetry:

    Mark Phelps said:
Thanks for this. I downloaded and installed it. When I ran it, it complained about the Connected User experiences and Telemetry service being disabled. So does that mean I am NOT sending anything to MS after all?
For myself I've always been okay with sending basic telemetry and helping others shut theirs down if they want to but as an 'average' user not involved with "rings or insider" I don't see the point in going 'full' with the diagnostic setting.

I had thought of doing my own experiment but as an example; When I ran the Diagnostic Data Viewer mentioned by me in Marks thread there were no complaints because my setting was at Basic.

Finally let my three laptops update. Took a couple of hours to finish. Two days into the new version and so far no problems. All is working quite well. Relieved and Pleased.
