    Windows 10 Search shows blank box issue has been resolved

    Last Updated: 10 Feb 2020 at 12:07
    We are aware of a temporary server-side issue causing Windows search to show a blank box. This issue has been resolved for most users and in some cases, you might need to restart your device (possibly 2-3 times). We are working diligently to fully resolve the issue and will provide an update once resolved.

    This issue was resolved at 12:00 PM PST. If you are still experiencing issues, please restart your device (possibly 2-3 times). In rare cases, you may need to manually end the SearchUI.exe or SearchApp.exe process via Task Manager. (To locate these processes, select CTRL + Shift + Esc then select the Details tab.)

    If you are still having this issue and don't want to wait, you can use step 3 below to "Turn Off Search online and include web results from Bing" as a workaround to fix the broken blank search in Windows 10.

    Turn On or Off Search online and include web results in Windows 10

    Thanks, this is a good option since I never do web searches from the taskbar Search, just in browsers.

    Restarting didn't work for me. I had to reset Cortana using the following Powershell command:

    Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Cortana | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    Microsoft fixes Windows 10 search bar fault

    Dozens posted on social media that Windows Search had stopped working for them on Wednesday morning.

    Users said that when they used the desktop search tool it brought up a blank box rather than related results.

    Hours after it was first reported, the company said it "resolved" the problem for most users but some may need to restart their computers.

    "This issue has been resolved for most users and in some cases you may need to reboot your machine," it said.

    Well...was this fix pushed by MS without using "Check for updates" or was it just pushed on us?
    This morning I booted up and still no search. Having read that the issue is fixed I re-booted. Still no joy. I checked for updates. found one for antivirus and it installed. Now search is working again. So how did it get fixed? Inquiring minds want to know

    Just got bitten by this this morning, right after a reboot. Fortunately, "End Process Tree" on SearchUI.exe in Details / TaskMgr did the trick. Works just fine now. Weird.

    Seems it was fixed in build 2020.02.04.6238073.

    According to Woody On Windows is is because " Somebody at Microsoft is beta-testing buggy JavaScript code on our machines. Without warning. And there’s nothing we can do about it."
