Is terminal a replacement for cmd?

Or will there now be 3 variants of a command line tool?
    - cmd
    - terminal
    - powershell

    Or is cmd = terminal?

window terminal is not a command line tool, it is a terminal emulator more like conhost.exe that is included in windows and currently hosts all command line tools (like dir, mkdir ...) and shells (powershell, cmd, bash ...) on windows. the diference between wt and conhost is that wt is a more modern implementation with modern features like tabs, font fallback, proper trasparency and so on
