    Windows 10 (duh)

Defender is my #1 instability source
    - roughly once in 5 installs, it will refuse to go away as it should, creating havoc.
So please do the necessary steps to disable it completely, just to be safe

    Net framework optimization comes second
    - happens rarely, one time paint.net installs in seconds, another time it takes ages, and you can't do much while that happens (it supposed to run at idle times and be async, but it seems something is wrong with it)

Third is the Start menu and taskbar Search. It just won't launch at times, you need to click on icons several times. Disabling Cortana completely does cure most of the issues.

Fourth comes Xbox and it's Game bar
    - definitely a memory leak since I've seen a whooping 57 processes hogging resources. Who's the idiot that come up with the idea to slap that thing on every window opened by the user, no matter if it's a picture viewer, a text editor, a game. Online games with anti-cheating solutions will not like it for sure.

    Everything else is user error
    - trying to use custom themes? logon screens? you are asking for trouble!
    - trying to use registry tweaks etc blindly? bad idea - make sure it was verified to work on Windows 10 without side-effects

But there's more. You will bump into many apps breaking or having issues in 10
    - Like for example Mumble. That was rock solid in 7 or 8. Same settings: everything disabled (osd etc). Push to talk. And to my surprise today when I launched some Dota 2, whenever I've pushed the key to speak, fps dropped really low in-game. Good thing I quickly notice it, double-checked settings, changed some, changed the keyboard shortcut and eventually it went away.

Also, a bit off-topic, but I finally got 10 to have on-par performance with 8.1 in Dota 2 - I don't know exactly what the issue was since I was hitting a wall when it comes to micro-stuttering - but I know for sure now It's not the Nvidia driver. When I sort it out trough all the registry tweaks, policy tweaks, uninstalling components, disabling system devices/drivers - I might post it for fellow tenforumers willing to risk a reset :)

Techspot's test results seem to say all three are roughly comparable speedwise. Most comments seem to agree with that assessment. I don't believe that's a universal truth. I do a weekly backup including a system image using Windows Backup and Restore. With Windows 7 that process always took between 45 minutes and an hour. With Windows 10, the one time I've done it, took 1 hour and 45minutes, over twice as long. That really surprised me. Before running the backup, I too would have said Windows 10 speed is comparable to Win 7, but having the hard time figures showed something else.

I am not a Windows 10 fan, it has nothing over 7 or 8/8.1 in my opinion. Cortana isn't an issue since I already have Google Voice and Edge, let's face it, is a dog. Perhaps in several years they might get the bugs out.

We have 8 computers in the household and will continue to keep the ones that are Windows 7 and 8 and 8.1 as they are, I see no reason to upgrade, NONE. Other than trying to get rid of the stupid GWX icon. (uninstalled it and turned updates off) It angers me if you tell it you don't want the update, it should remove it. But there again it just MS trying to force feed everyone. Personally, I don't know why people would want Windows 10, unless they have a pirated copy. IMHO

If you're a tech fan like me you want the latest version of everything, doesn't matter if it's Android, IOS, OSX or Windows, I think I'm .2 behind in Android and it's annoying .
Windows 10 is faster and more secure, I don't care what anybody says, I've got the computers to prove it, it might not be on some computers, but that's because of drivers etc.
Another thing I like is free stuff and a long time ago I learnt not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

I've installed Windows 10 on 4 computers from old Atom to Core i7, I had a problem upgrading with 2 so upgraded from ISO. I've had no dramas since upgrading. My old Atom boots much, much faster than than on 7 or 8 and generally runs smoother.
    That's good for you.

I love using apps from the online store, saves me wandering around all over the Internet and they're nice and easy to uninstall if I don't like them.
Even better, I don't like apps, as well as many others as well. The forced unremoveable XBOX APP broke SC2 for all gamers out there and has to be forcefully removed via administrative powershell command in order for it to work correctly. Not to mention all the other useless apps that are forcefully installed that are not needed that again cannot be removed unless you powershell remove them. Hopefully the idiots at Microsoft wont patch this in the future.

I can't understand people still using an outdated OS like 7 unless you just like museum pieces or have some old programme that won't run on 8 or 10.
I will for lack of a better word, bite my tongue on this one because I have tons of things I can say to you on that subject matter. Now if you said something about XP or VISTA then OK. But bashing 7 & 8.1 users is not cool. I am not running ANCIENT HARDWARE or SOFTWARE here and that comment is not only insulting to just me, but everyone else that is having problems. (Z97 chipset and Samsung Evo SSD too ancient for you tech guy?) This is coming from a clean install of W10 with all your crAPPS and I have issues with gaming and other problems that are not even worth the hassle. You are saying (just 3 examples from me alone) GTA V, SC2, and FRUITY LOOPS 11, are ANCIENT SOFTWARE yea? I'm sorry but that comment you just made is very rude and it makes you sound like a pure arse. I am grateful that there are users here that actually try to help out and tweak to make the best of things.

I can understand people having problems with laptops as they often have a very strict line of drivers, most PCs should be okay, but there are always exceptions.
Really? Because you don't seem to be very understanding to me, you just want to be close minded about W10, why it works because all you do is check emails and play apps? Get real, people have other real world applications that need to run on a computer besides news and weather. How about gaming and video editing and @mll the problems he is having?

    Your comment ticked me off.

Glad to hear you fixed your problem. I'm still messing around in 10 as I have been having some problems myself, but I have other machines so I am OK to play around on the O/S, but probably won't permanently

As for installation 7 is the champ! 20minutes tops for a full clean install from either flash drive or dvd! 8 took longer then Vista! Vista was about 40minutes give or take a few while 8 took a full hour when trying out the Customer Preview for that. 10's TP went on just a little faster and the latest clean install of the RTM we all have now was under an hour at about 53 minutes! Less Metrolizations and less time with Getting things ready while you still wait a bit.
    Weird.
On my PC, I found that a clean install of W10 took slightly less time than W7 (18 minutes vs 20 minutes).
I can't remember how long W8 took to install to a VHD, but it was ~20 minutes.

    Maybe because they:
    • Have more control over their PC (no Automatic Mandatory Updates)
    • Hate the default colour scheme
    • Like a stable proven system

My W10 VM runs OK apart from a random "mouse failure" issue (sometimes it doesn't start during boot up).

Youre the one who doesn't care what other people say, you just keep on rubbishing Windows 10. You haven't paid for it, so if you don't like it remove it and move on.
Ive been listening to all this same rubbish since DOS, there are more people on Windows 10 gaming machines than any other Windows already, according to Steam.

Oh really? Please state how I do not care? I have been dealing with issues and trying to help other users out as well as other pros here have been helping me out and we've been discussing and customizing back and forth and whatnot. If I didn't care what anyone else said then why are we helping each other and why are they helping me? Hell, I had 3 users post help to restore Windows Photo Viewer on W10 with @BunnyJ posting the .reg code so we didn't have to go searching around, is just one example.

I have a lot of respect for the regs on here that help out and contribute and I've even tried to help out and contribute myself. I don't need to mention names because they know who they are.

You are the one who is just sitting there idolizing W10 and calling users of 7 & 8.1 ancient and "museums" for lack of better words because software or hardware isn't working for us when it was just fine in the last 2 versions of Windows. So yea I care what other people say and I don't idolize W10, I try to analyze it, and a lot of users are having unnecessary problems with W10. Just because you don't play games or video edit or sound edit and let me guess, what you play APPS from the "store" and surf news and do nothing else, and everything works? So that makes W10 the best? Congrats, slow clap for you. If you have nothing to contribute (besides bashing 7/8.1 users) then zip it.

A lot more people on W10 gaming machines then any other Windows already according to steam? LMAO. Sorry to burst your bubble bud, but you made a mistake while reading your "articles" on your "perfect O/S". That is not the case and I can pull up multiple sources.

2.3% of users on Steam are already using Windows 10 - proving more popular than any single version of Mac OSX, and more than any of the Linux OSes combined
Windows 10 Is Already More Popular With Steam Gamers Than Mac and Linux - IGN

Microsoft's strategy of offering a free upgrade to Windows 10 for Windows 7 and 8.1 owners seems to be paying off. Already, 2.3% of Valve's Steam PC gaming service are already using Windows 10 just a few days after its launch.

Those are the numbers from Valve's hardware survey of its tens of millions of Steam PC users. The survey results are updated monthly and the recently released stats for the month of July 2015 show that the 64-bit version of Windows 10 is used by 2.21% of Steam customers, while just 0.09% have the 32-bit version of Windows 10.
Windows 10 is already used by more Steam gamers than any Mac or Linux OS | Windows Central

    Great stats bud.
    Windows 10 vs. Windows 8.1 vs. Windows 7 Performance-steam-hardware-survey.jpg

Oh whats this? You mean Win 7 and Win 8.1 is still at the top of the list for steam? 45% 31% respectively? Why you say because of the glitches people have been having with Steam and Windows 10? Just like me and these other users here who signed up just to post to get help with Steam.

Solved Steam Running in low res - Windows 10 Forums

Did you even bother installing Steam on your computer? Or hmm ... let me guess you don't use it? Do you? Check the Steam forums much or have any Steam friends? Because the ones that I have are not pushing to W10 because of "compatibility issues" so we are staying behind on our ancient museum O/Ses.

I wasn't going to turn this into a flame war, but you did it by:
    a) assuming I hate W10 and calling it rubbish - when I don't, I'm annoyed like most others.
    b) stating that W10 is the best and the ones that have problems are dumb dumbs, because thats how you made it sound.

And lastly, no ... I won't remove it and move on. I'm going to sort out "your buggy O/S" until it works accordingly.

    Hope that helps,
    Cheers :)
