Defender is my #1 instability source
- roughly once in 5 installs, it will refuse to go away as it should, creating havoc.
So please do the necessary steps to disable it completely, just to be safe
Net framework optimization comes second
- happens rarely, one time paint.net installs in seconds, another time it takes ages, and you can't do much while that happens (it supposed to run at idle times and be async, but it seems something is wrong with it)
Third is the Start menu and taskbar Search. It just won't launch at times, you need to click on icons several times. Disabling Cortana completely does cure most of the issues.
Fourth comes Xbox and it's Game bar
- definitely a memory leak since I've seen a whooping 57 processes hogging resources. Who's the idiot that come up with the idea to slap that thing on every window opened by the user, no matter if it's a picture viewer, a text editor, a game. Online games with anti-cheating solutions will not like it for sure.
Everything else is user error
- trying to use custom themes? logon screens? you are asking for trouble!
- trying to use registry tweaks etc blindly? bad idea - make sure it was verified to work on Windows 10 without side-effects
But there's more. You will bump into many apps breaking or having issues in 10
- Like for example Mumble. That was rock solid in 7 or 8. Same settings: everything disabled (osd etc). Push to talk. And to my surprise today when I launched some Dota 2, whenever I've pushed the key to speak, fps dropped really low in-game. Good thing I quickly notice it, double-checked settings, changed some, changed the keyboard shortcut and eventually it went away.
Also, a bit off-topic, but I finally got 10 to have on-par performance with 8.1 in Dota 2 - I don't know exactly what the issue was since I was hitting a wall when it comes to micro-stuttering - but I know for sure now It's not the Nvidia driver. When I sort it out trough all the registry tweaks, policy tweaks, uninstalling components, disabling system devices/drivers - I might post it for fellow tenforumers willing to risk a reset :)
