Thanks kado897...I attempted to try that before I posted, but Edge isn't listed in the folder you illustrated - the shortcut seems to originate from the shell:appsfolder and I can't find any way of changing the icon there either.

(If I right-click 'more' on the actual icon in my start list, the only options offered are 'pin to taskbar' and 'app settings')

Not sure what's going on there. Maybe your Chromium Edge install is hosed. It may be worth uninstalling Chromium Edge and reinstalling it.

Is Edge installed in Programs and Features?

You may have to enable Edge SXS...

Edwin...the new version was installed as a separate program after I'd downloaded it...I've just uninstalled it though and I think I'll now wait until it's eventually offered via Windows Update.

Fake news. Please keep up ...

Automatic rollout and update roadmap for consumers

If you’d prefer not to install Microsoft Edge manually, you can wait for it to be installed in a future update to Windows 10, following our measured roll-out approach over the next several months. We will start to migrate Windows 10 customers to the new Microsoft Edge in the coming weeks, starting with a subset of Windows Insiders in the Release Preview ring.
    ...
The new Microsoft Edge will gradually be made available on Windows Update and offered to additional devices as data and feedback indicate that users are having a good experience.

Here is the link from that blog and the setup will replace Legacy Edge and update all shortcuts to new Edge and update the Icon.

    I won't install Edge again!
Not only does it reek of proprietary software, they can't seem to make it work properly after 6 months!

Not to mention other sneaky asinine BS going on!
