Maybe answered before, I didn't go through all 30 pages. But why did they go with an open source platform like chromium?
One of the main reasons is that they decided to make development of web apps and sites easier by unifying standards and rendering engines. Egde and Chrome used to work very differently.

Another reason, which is not an official reason but more of my own reasoning, is that Edge wasn't that very well received. Also many had a lot off issues with it. It was slow and buggy or didn't run at all for many users.

One of the problems is that there are apps such as the last UK version of Microsoft Money that use IE.
What Microsoft should do is release a new version of Money for the UK that use a windows interface not the IE one.
Also IE is extensively used in the new car franchise (Dealer) Automotive sector, for IDS (Integrated Diagnostic Software).

Some car brands are only just starting to change to the use of Chrome Browsers with all new Diagnostics which are not backward compatible (Bosch OE made for Car Brands).
So still millions of cars from 1995 to 2019 (worldwide) who will still need Internet Exp, so far no news on any compatibility change for these older car models....car brands are just starting to phase out old IDS.

    Hi folks

IMO -- what we used to call a W.O.S (politely !!) or others might call it WPOS --what a pile of S--T.

    Waste of space !!!

Who in their right minds would even THINK of using Edge as their basic browser when there are so many better alternatives --no matter what OS you use.

Ms might be getting the Windows OS sort of OK and the security as well but they are still LIGHT YEARS behind in sensible browsers.

    Cheers

Now, now let us not be to harsh.

I am no big fan of Microsoft any longer, Windows 10, or IE, or the Old Edge, BUT, this is far superior to the any of their other browsers and certainly is headed in the right direction, as in competing with the other major browsers.

I think it is the only sensible thing Microsoft has done in the past 3 years.

You can go to Programs and Features and add IE under Features.

Restart Windows and IE will install and can be found in Program Files (x86) then use iexplore.exe to run it.

Or you can follow the directions in the link in my previous post above which will run IE Mode in Edge. I have not tried it but went simple to use IE11 on it's own.
