It is annoying, too, now the ESC key no longer cancels the result screen. You now need to click on the 'back' icon, before, the ESC key returned to the context of Windows Explorer, naturally. And after a few or a search, the 'search' is disabled and you have to close the Windows Explorer process to perform a new search. Even though I don't often use this feature, I think it should work when I need it. As before...

There's now a big red X on the ribbon to close a search.

And, if the ribbon is collapsed, one in the search box itself achieves the same thing

Also @emailx45, the Esc key actually collapses the ribbon if it's open in Search or any other view. Presumably, it cannot do 2 different things in the same window.

Look, I have used MSWindows since MSWindows 3.1 / 3.11 for Workstation (Network environment)!

I have seen various behaviours on MSWindows, include bugs, bad-setting, apps non-sense, etc... and, good apps!

I LOVE USE KEYBOARD AND MOUSE!

IT'S NOT MY PREFERENCE USE OTHERS DEVICES LIKE CONSOLE ACCESSORYS (XBOX CONTROLS FOR EXAMPLE) - OR SHOW THE "RIBBON" OPTIONS ON MY SCREEN

    - I LOVE TYPE IN MY KEYBOARD AS BEFORE ON D.O.S era!

BUT...... DONT CHANGE my "ESC" key for 1-click-Mouse in currently era, MOBILE-AGE, it's not acceptable for me and many others.

OK!!! MICROSOFT PUT ALL "X" ICONS THAT IT DESIRE IN "YOUR" OPERATING SYSTEM AND YOUR APPS.

BUT, PLEASE DONT KILL MY "ESC short-cut"

Ummmmmm....... I use the keyboard and mouse too as it happens - I rather think most people on here do (who've also used Windows back to 3.x and DOS before that.)

If you read what @Bree and I said above, we're showing you more ways to use the keyboard and/or mouse even with the ribbon collapsed if you prefer - that was what we both illustrated.

And I really don't know why you chose to mention XBox in your colorful response.

why? because i dont like it, then it's a compare between 'keyboard + mouse' versus xbox control
    nothing more

    before another question:
keyboard + mouse = game actions

    - - - Updated - - -

    shortcut access when typing, etc...
