File Explorer only shows formatted disks that it understands, FAT, FAT32, NTFS, EXFAT (I think). From Windows 10, you can select each in turn from diskpart and clean them, that will leave them as raw, unformatted. Then you should be able to format them in Linux, right?

You won't if you're on the public release of 1909. Cumulative updates are first released to Insiders on the Release Preview ring for testing before general release. This would appear to be the CU intended for general release next Patch Tuesday, Feb 11.

    Hi there
Linux can re-format disks whatever state they are in

for example if there's an NTFS file system on /dev/sdc

simply type as root (ensure the disk isn't mounted on Linux)

mkfs.ext4 -f /dev/sdc. the -f parameter will force a re-format even if there's existing file system on it. File system can be windows / any of the linux type file systems. --Though to force re-format with ntfs or other windows file system you will have to format the partition e.g /dev/sdc2 or whatever. Ensure ntfs-3g is installed and if you need a gui install gparted.

BTW can't install VISIO 2019 (X-64) on this (clean install) release -- hangs at about 50%. Project and the rest of the OFFICE 2019 PRO suite work just fine.

No problems though if I use an UPDATE from an earlier version of windows.

    Cheers
