@jimbo45 MBM has blocked a few things. As I mentioned to you in the past, I probably visit 300+ websites a week for work where you run the risk of facilities that have closed and their domain taken over for nefarious means.

My 3 cents, I liked 7 but 10 works smoother/faster for me, I got tired of all the updates with 7.

But I also dislike all the Apps/craps with 10, it's ok provided you don't activate or use these Apps....just more bloatware, why cant there be an easy delete of them?

I am flabbergasted when I hear of the many companies worldwide who still get hacked or threats because some were/are still using XP or now 7.
To me it is strange that company IT Departments are not demanding OS changes, one would think it is in their best interest to budget for platform upgrades.
    RIP W7
You can uninstall a lot of the apps now.

    Hi there

    @swarfega

A lot of businesses actually use Windows Server editions to create their own VPN's and Windows Virtual Desktop Infrastructure which is a totally different ballgame --these are usually well protected and "reasonably" (nothing is 100% secure though) hackproof even if running on a personal laptop running a consumer version of Windows. The VDI is (or should be if the I.T dept is doing its job properly) totally isolated from the Host Windows desktop machine. Of course large organisations aren't 100% immune to "Inside jobs" but on the whole for the base user it's not an issue. If people like say SHELL etc are too skint to pay for proper I.T services then word should get out and people could dump stock or not buy their products -- that's the way to get big business to improve security.

Smaller businesses obviously can't spend 100,000's of USD etc on I.T infrastructure but there are very cheap reasonable Cloud services available to provide the equivalent type of "VDI" that can run on local users desktops whether they are running Windows or Linux or even Macs or a combination of all 3.

I'd seriously worry about large organisations merely dishing out even say bog standard W10 Enterprise to run on their desktops and only connect with a server for data / office applications -- a proper "Virtual Desktop Infrastructure" should be a given these days.

    Cheers

A lot of organisations are either too big to make the decisions or don't know enough.

    Hi there
Often it's also Non technical (mis-)management making technical decisions !!!!

I think in the UK you have good example of that --HS2 infrasture decision approved by non technical people - Oxbridgre arts graduats in Civil Service) -- easu solution to get more capacity -- just parallel up existing track to 4 lines instead of 2 --OK some properties etc need to be demolished but it would be zillions cheaper than current proposal !!!!!! Any Engineer could have worked that one out in 2 secs flat !!!!! instead of a project costing a whopping 100 Billion GBP !!!!! and of benefit to hardly anybody !!!!!

Indeed, look at governments making IT decisions.

@swarfega -- just posted above about HS2 -- good example -- a decent engineer would just parallel the track to 4 lines to increase capacity -- or even 6 --much cheaper than HS2 --- also a spur from existing Kings X / St Pancras to the west cost main line (Watford ??) - cheaper than all that expensive development in Central London (Euston ??)

Anyway enjoy the rest of the day !!

I will keep my win7/10 dual boot digital workstation, but then it only really goes online to verify my Photoshop CC subscription every now and then. I have a low-end win10 pc for web and emails.

    Hi folks

Why not run W7 as a VM - these days VM's run very efficiently -- saves the hassle of dual booting, is more secure, you can run both OS's concurrently and you can share data / HDD's etc between the VM and HOST machine running W10.
You could even run an XP VM as well if you just want simple emails -- Outlook express still a great email client. I wouldn't though run a browser on XP - use one of the other systems. If you do this you've now got a spare machine for testing / backup etc (or you could even try a Linux system on it --Linux runs on almost anything - doesn't need high end hardware to work).

    Cheers

I use VM to test out Linux distros, but, my win7 drive has software on it that took ages to install (85gb) and more importantly to tweak and configure it's sweet spot, I don't want to do that again if I don't have too.....
