Why use the Chrome based version of Edge in preference to Chrome?
Because you sync browser data to your Work/school Account (or personal MS Account) with Edge. Seen from an enterprise perspective this is preferable over sync to a personal Google Account.

New Edge Browser Arriving via Automatic Updates

Microsoft plans to deliver its new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser to end users via its Automatic Updates service sometime in 2020, likely in January.

Details are described in recent Microsoft documents, such as this article. The nuance was noted by William Devereux, a senior program manager on the Microsoft Edge team, in this Twitter post (cited by a Thurrott article).

    Sure will.

Have you read the article? A little further down, Microsoft? is offering an Edge blocker?? It'll block the update but allow a later chance if you change your mind.

I'm pretty sure my wife won't mind but I'm still undecided for the laptop and desktop. I just upgraded the desktop from 7 to 10 and I think I'll keep it off that one for awhile until I see how the laptop fares.
