checked for updates at 6pm UK time and only received the CU .net framework update. had to manually go find the windows10.0-kb4530684-x64_xxxxxxxx.msu file for the CU to 18363.535. then later windows update gave me Malicious Software Removal Tool update. i ran the dism command someone posted above but what does it do? I suspect it validates the main windows files are correct.

I just noticed that he option to view HIDDEN files in the file explorer is gone. I have got one folder that is empty but I can't delete it. I know there are 8 hidden files and it tell me I need administrator permission to delete this folder. There does not seem to be a way to tell it I am the administrator. I really don't want to save, format the drive and then restore.

NOT gone in ribbon. If it is, close, re-open FE and check a diff folder. Are you using any 3rd Party tools ?

No problem at this level. Everything is working fine in my case.

UPDATE: @alkaufmann, Maybe you can completely power off the computer and reboot and see if the same thing happens. In that case, a process may be hogging the proper functioning of this component; or, you can use a third-party tool like Unlocker or Lockhunter to try to delete the problematic folder.

After this update and the Net Framework update installed I ran 'Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup' which went to 20% very quickly and then said 'The operation completed successfully'.
I wonder what's that all about?
Yeah, it doesn't seem to fully cleanup the latest package and keeps recommending to run when using AnalyzeComponentStore parameter..

Not a problem for me either. Also still have show/hide protected files.

For me, Windows Update kept checking for updates for an hour. Had to restart and install this and the .Net update manually. Later, Windows Update worked after I clicked on "Check for Updates" and it offered me MSRT and Security Intelligence Updates which it was able to install successfully. Don't know what happened.
