Regarding the KB4566782 I tried to get help with that in September as did others! Have a look at thie folloiwng thread.
(My wife died a few weeks later so I have not done more investigation until now as most of Win 10 still works.)

I agree with you about the "bits of code" possibility. I have also wondered about that.
I tried to get the Net Framework from the link you gave but the standalone install came up with "not applicable to your computer". I tried four different download descriptions and they all got the same result. I have the previous one installed already.

I had one idea sparked from your comments. According to the OS Build info on Settings, 20H2 was installed on 7th August. I see from my list of Programmes and Features via control panel that I installed several programmes within a few days after that date. It maybe that something in one of those is interfering. I must think about them in that context. But it cannot be an inherent fault as they all work OK on my old Lenovo PC which has quite happily installed 20H2 and all the extras ever since. Still dreadfully slow, but it/they all works.

Acer and Intel support desks try to be helpful but their buzzwordy type responses are never enough.

PS Do you know of any article that describes in detail what happens after first switching on a brand new computer? How does it know that it needs to install Win 10 from scratch?; where does it find the install file?; where does it get the right (factory) device drivers from and how? I really need to understand what goes on!

Update on my end - I found the 1909 enablement update as a .cab file in a thread here by Brink. I followed his instructions to install it using a DISM command, two restarts later, and voilà 18363 is enabled! Scott
