OneDrive Roadmap Roundup of latest new features in October 2019

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019

The OneDrive team is busy preparing for Ignite and we canít wait to share some amazing announcements with you next week. In the meantime, here are the latest functionalities that landed in production in the month of October-2019.

    • File sharing experience in Outlook Web app
    • Markup capabilities for Office on Android
    • External Sharing Reports
    • Cross volume moves with PC folder backup
    • Per machine install of Sync Client- GA

File sharing experience in Outlook Web app
    Roadmap ID: 51541

We are heavily invested in making the sharing experience reliable, intuitive, secure and consistent across web, desktop, mobile and through out Microsoft 365
You can easily share a file or folder to your colleagues by sending them a link and make sure your data doesnít land in the wrong hands by choosing who the link will work for: anyone with the link, only people in your organization with the link or only the people you specify.

To make the sharing experience ubiquitous across Office apps, you can now share files by easily adjusting the sharing and access controls (view, edit, expire, block download, etc.) directly in the Outlook web app. Links shared will intelligently resolve to the name of the file.

Coherent sharing experience with Outlook web app.

    Markup capabilities for Office (Android)
    Roadmap ID: 53912

Accomplishing tasks on your phone is simple and fast with OneDrive including annotating a PDF file to highlight items or add notes. Android users will now be able to easily convert a Word, PowerPoint or Excel file to PDFs and leverage our markup capabilities.

    External sharing reports
    Roadmap ID: 56194

OneDrive users can now generate reports to understand how content is being shared, both inside and outside the organization. When you run the report, a CSV file is saved to a location of your choosing.

Cross volume moves with PC folder backup
    Roadmap ID: 56383

OneDrive protects your content in your important Windows folders (Desktop, Pictures, Documents) alongside consistent productivity benefits by implementing PC folder backup (previously referred to as Known Folder Move). Employees can continue saving files to the folders they are familiar with as well as have access to their files in these important Windows folders from anywhere.

We are happy to announce support of cross volume moves while backing up known Windows folders allowing people to back up their important folders even when they are on a different volume than the OneDrive folder.

Per machine install of sync client is now Generally Available
    Roadmap ID: 49424

We are glad to disclose that ďPer machine install of sync clientĒ, previously announced in Preview is now Generally Available.

This functionality helps installing OneDrive once on the Windows machine under Program Files. Migrating to the per-machine client is optional, but it can be helpful for multi-user machines and when you donít want exe files running from the user profile.

The new per-machine sync client provides:

    • Automatic transitioning from the previous OneDrive sync client (Groove.exe)
    • Automatic conversion from per-user to per-machine
    • Automatic updates when a new version is available

The per-machine sync client supports syncing OneDrive and SharePoint files in Microsoft 365 and in SharePoint Server 2019.

As you can see, we continue to evolve OneDrive as a place to access, share, and collaborate on all your files in Office 365, keeping them protected and readily accessible on all your devices, anywhere.

You can stay up-to-date on all things via the OneDrive Blog and take advantage of end-user training resources on our Office support center.

Thank you again for your support of OneDrive. We look forward to your continued feedback on UserVoice and hope to connect with you at Ignite or another upcoming Microsoft or community-led event.

Thanks for your time reading all about OneDrive,
