My last two attempts using UUPDump both failed....Updating worked....it would appear something on my computer is blocking first attempt whichever method I use...and second or third try usually succeeds.
Same here, and before starting the 2nd attempt, I have been getting an error code for the reason it failed. Three times now, all different codes. If I got the error code the first time, what has changed for the 2nd attempt as it is immediate by choosing [Retry]? Last night, on 2nd attempt, the download took maybe 1 minute and the install phase jumped right along. Seems to me "they" are using the same data? Why isn't the software smart enough to figure that out before it is restored to previous version?

Seems to be an issue with notification audio here.

Second try Update successful...and quick.....first try failure code 0x80240fff...I could suggest unprintable words for the last three letters.

Assuming most of us have a reasonable internet speed, why do some say it takes 20 mins, whilst others hours on end?

The install phase is heavy on CPU and Disk i/o at times so a powerful CPU & fast SSD make a huge difference, plus for some of us it fails during the install phase and bounces back to downloading. It can do that more than once.

I always open Task manager to see what's going on. In this last case download was very slow, barely 5 -6 Mbps of possible 20, that's part that took longest. I could also detect some pause at 7% of DL with furious disk activity before it continued. After 100% DL there was a pause of about 10 minutes when seemingly nothing was happening. After that it went fast. I have insider on an SSD but not very fast one and it kept on 100% activity during install phase. On a slow HDD that probably takes forever.
I don't think CPU or RAM are properly utilized, never went over 5%.

A lot of activity on account that many files have to be backed up (windows.old) and many to be replaced, practically everything system wise.

Windows.old is over 20GB so think double that plus WinSxs has a lot of hard links which takes time to set up.
