It would be nice if regular users could actually know if 18362.449 will be the update that continues towards the next update or if update will shift their machines to 18363.449.

Some users think that the update will switch their machines to 18363.499

I think that 18363.499 is a dud and will be scrapped.

18363 isn't going away, it's just a patch that enables 1909 features. It will install just like a regular update.

When I updated from Insider Slow ring release 18362.10024 to 18363.449 Pre- Release it was a Feature update and not a simple CU.

We shall see what the release version will be and how it will be installed.

As an Insider build 18362.10024 probably needed a full feature update, but for the RTM builds it appears that only an 'enablement package' (KB4517245) is required to switch from 18362 to 18363.

I have tested that on a retail 1903 install and found that installing KB4517245 on its own is sufficient to switch from 1903 to 1909. See:

I think I have an issue related to this update. My laptop (RoG Stryx GL703VD WD SN750 NVMe hard drive, Seagate Firecuda 2tb Hybrid storage, 32Gb Corsair Vengeance) will NOT accept the KB4508451 update. I've run DISM then SFC to find an correct errors with NO resolution. Today I ran an image backup and tried to restore the drive (boot, recovery and windows) back to early September, but same issues. I've stopped short of doing a full wipe and reinstall of all files, settings and programs. Would downloading the 1909 iso and running an in-place upgrade make sense? I should mention, I'm still on 1903 (18362.10022) and when this problem cropped up 3 weeks ago, opted out of WIP altogether. Today, I opted back in to the Release Preview ring, and whenever I go back in to Windows>Settings> Updates>WIP it starts to load then abruptly RESTARTS.. the whole damn PC..

    Hi folks

    can somebody please "unconfuse me".

Build 18362 has 1903 as its version while 18363 labels this as 1909 so are these two totally different builds or is it just a question of how updates are done ?.

I'm beginning to think that you need a University doctorate (Ph.d) now merely to perform the smallest of tasks with Windows these days if you need to actually understand what you are doing !!!.

    Cheers

MS word games. They are essentially the same animals. The "Enablement" CU allegedly coming next Tuesday (12th), flips on the code that is already there in 18362.449, and it auto-magically becomes 18363.449. 19H1>19H2. 1903>1909. Release Preview did that a while ago.

There is very little different to see between 1903 & 1909. Most of the changes have been for OEMs.
