but when I check for updates I'm not offered KB4524147.

Did not work for me. When I print with LibreOffice and/or notepad, both apps close immediately. Using HP 8740 Pro.

    Gort

Update: Opening an existing LibreOffice document, causes LibreOffice to crash.

Have I got this right? A special update to fix a basic "print spooling error", on an operating system that's been around for 3 years?

And that also then 'coincidentally' renders LibreOffice inoperable?

Sounds like some wires may have got crossed here!

This update caught me off guard. Annoying I had to reboot while I was listening to music.

Downloading right now. Can anyone tell me how automatic update works? Never got any updates install automatically for me. Everything is set as default in Windows Update + Connection is unmetered.

Hi, I also use Libre Office (the Portable version). After reading your post, I tried reproducing your problem, but can not. I opened a few DOCX, XLSX, PPT, and ODF. I also tested creating new files, no crashes.
