earlier releases of VMWare software can't be expected to work on current Windows buildsOlder software of this type is highly unlikely to continue workingetc etc etc... he never disappoints me---As for V14 I think I've answered your question
--------------------------------------------------------------
For users of vmware player/wksta 12/14:
- in Explorer, navigate to C:\Windows\apppatch
- rightclick on sysmain.sdb, Properties, Security, Advanced
- set Owner to Administrators, grant Full Control to Administrators, click OK
- rename the file sysmain.sdb to something different
- unpack sysmain.zip file attached below
- copy unpacked sysmain.sdb to C:\Windows\apppatch folder
- enjoy your vmware 12/14 software again
- keep the file ready for future cumulative/destructive updates.
Off site download 1 Dropbox - sysmain.zip - Simplify your life
Off site download 2 - WeTransfer

Some explanation: for many programs to run, it is necessary to replace current .sdb databases (often more than one) of forbidden programs/drivers by some older ones; this is only one month old (personally I use ones from vanilla 1511 because of old Daemon Tools & Thinkpad Power Manager & Radeon Suite etc... and now Vmware Player). Win10 is the worst system from Win NT 3.1 and this is one of many reasons why MS is now considered as purely hated enemy by me.

I installed this update on my Lenovo laptop with no problems, then found that nothing would print on my HP 5200 printer even though it showed up as the installed, ready default printer in Devices and Printers. Thanks to Dalchina for posting about this bug so it didn't come as a complete surprise to me. I uninstalled the update and everything now prints properly.
I am running Asus ROG STRIX Z370 GAMING (WiFi AC) with Realtek Audio 6.0.1.8382 + Sonic 3.6.34.49403 with the same issue. Seems that something is at odds with MS 18362.387.
Downloaded Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING Realtek Audio 6.0.1.8666 (installs Sonic 3.14.4.0) and installed after first uninstalling both the original Sonic & Realtek. The new Realtek installs everything in itself and the hidden icons no longer appear. However link icons can be pinned to the task bar.
Then installed MS KB4517211 (KB4520390 comes too). No more problems - apparently.
My laptop still refuses to install this from either WU or the msi.
Thanks muchomurka... will give it a go and let you know..
and also got hit by HP printer issue...
Printing problem confirmed by MS, no resolution, workaround - use v3 driver.

I had a similar issue with this update and the Sonic Studio software for the Asus Strix Raid sound card where A-Volute_3D_Sound_Experts would show up on a UAC prompt for the startup app: nhAsusStrixUILauncher.exe.
I figured out a work around where I disabled "Enable Launch at Startup" for the Strix Sonic Studio application.
I copied some file paths in task scheduler from the original Asus startup tasks: nhAsusStrixUILauncherRun, nhAsusStrixsvc32Run, and nhAsusStrixsvc64Run.
I then created three new startup tasks to run at "Login with any user" and "Run with the highest privileges" as follows:
#nhAsusStrixUILauncherRun
Action: Start a Program:
Program/Script:
"C:\Program Files\ASUSTeKcomputer.Inc\nhAsusStrix\UserInterfac e\nhAsusStrixUILauncher.exe"
Add Arguments:
/noUI
#nhAsusStrixsvc32Run
Action: Start a Program:
Program/Script:
"C:\Program Files\ASUSTeKcomputer.Inc\nhAsusStrix\UserInterfac e\nhAsusStrixsvc32.exe"
Add Arguments:
/start all
#nhAsusStrixsvc64Run
Action: Start a Program:
Program/Script:
"C:\Program Files\ASUSTeKcomputer.Inc\nhAsusStrix\UserInterfac e\x64\nhAsusStrixsvc64.exe"
Add Arguments:
/start all
