After more than 2 hours of bouncing back and forth between downloading and installing I left it alone to do its thing. When I checked about 1 and a half hours later it was ready for a restart. I hit restart and went to bed
This morning it was at the sign in screen. I only had a few minutes to check but everything seemed OK. I'll try updating my desktop when I get home tonight.

I got a Samsung 970 Evo Plus (500 GB) about 2 months ago. If you've never had an SSD before (I hadn't), be prepared to be amazed! You will also suddenly realize how much of what you do with your computer was disk I/O bound. It's sort of like going from 56K dialup modem to 300Mbps fiber - changes everything.

I was amazed what visible difference is between a Samsung 860 Evo Sata 3, 256 Gb (the other laptop) and a Samsung 970 Evo NVME M.2 250 Gb (this one).

It took about an hour last night to install 18990.1 using WU on the first try. All is fine with the update.

I used UUP Dump, iso took 2 try's but looking at update history, it did not recognize 18990 even thought it is installed. Is this because I used an iso rather than WU

Yes, it will only log it into Windows Updates History if you in fact do it thru Windows Update (WU). ISO method knows nothing about logging that entry, it just installs and give you the update in WINVER.
