    That's exactly what I was gonna bring up if that was the cure. VSS gives MR and other backup apps a static picture of the OS, no moving targets.
    A subjective, personal opinion: VSS is one of the Windows features and services that should never be disabled!

    Hey,not a problem at all, Andre. Actually, a benefit, cause we got to post why not to do that in case someone else was thinking it. Appreciate you throwing that out.
    Ok, checked Fast system and I have 1% of partition reserved for Restore points (Protection disabled). None in Skip system.

    Doesn't need to subjective nor personal when it's the flat out bottom line truth!

    Sorry, had no idea. Was looking to find an explanation for why I'm not affected with restore points.
    No need to apologize Andre.

    Hi folks

    @AndreTen and others

    I'm not sure if all this messing around to save a few MB on Windows builds is worth it currently -- especially with mega cheap SSD's etc -- you can get quite a decent Windows system with a load of serious applications (including Office 2019, Photoshop, VMWare workstation,VLC etc) all running in a whole lot less than in a 70 GB Windows partition where Windows itself with the installed applications probably takes around 35 - 40 GB -- so what's the point of trying to shave a few GB off a cheap 128 / 256 GB SSD. -- Just my point of course but I think a load of people are looking at OS's as if they were working as they were in Last century where people slung everything (OS, applications and data) into a single partition on the HDD / SSD.

    Keep your private data away from the OS system and you don't need a huge amount of disk space for it --also quicker to image backup and restore too. I despair when I see people posting about trying to recover their OS from a 1TB partition and the like --not necessary any more !!!.

    Cheers

    If you don't take case of the system it doesn't take long to build up GBs of temp files and out of date rubbish.

    Hi there
    @kado897

    Any sort of system whether a Computer or your own living spaces will build up rubbish if you don't carry out basic maintenance -- imagine what a typical living room might look like if it hasn't seen a Vacuum cleaner for say 1 year or more !!!!! or your bins don't get emptied for months !!!!

    I don't think that's an argument against Windows -- just regularly delete cookies / download stuff / temporary files.

    Cheers

    Exactly. I though you were arguing against it.

    From a personal point of view especially as an Insider, removing past flights and other unwanted detritus by means of either Storage or Disk Clean-up is essential in avoiding old drivers and other problems interacting with an already suspect new flight.

    Having stated the above has not meant I have had trouble free Updating....far from it.
